Best Halls?

I'm hopefully applying through clearing and so I won't have much time to decide

Hi

On the accommodation application you'll be able to choose 3 room type preferences e.g. premier en suite, washbasin band A, traditional band B, etc. not the halls. The hall and block are allocated for you by accommodation.

By choosing a specific room type you could increase your chances of getting the hall you want though. For example Barnes and Hawthorns have shared flats and only Barnes have premier flats. Lindsay court, holly cross and the Oaks are the the only blocks with premier en suite rooms. Lindsay Hall and Horwood halls have washbasin band A rooms, etc.

In my opinion the best hall is Lindsay hall as it's close to the centre of campus and has nice rooms. I have lived there for two years though so I am a little biased haha

Hope this helped

What are your thoughts about Horwood?

I know some people who prefer it over lindsay because its more social. Does this have any truth?

And what does band A mean as well? Obviously I noticed the price difference between the bands but I don't know what your getting for the extra money with band A. So far ive heard that band A has been renovated which makes me think thats the reason for the extra cost.

Thanks for any reply

Hi, I haven't been to Keele so I can't personally comment on Horwood or any halls, but this website has a league table for the halls at Keele, along with student reviews for each of them. Hope this helps!

Hi

I've also heard many people say it's a very social hall but I couldn't say from personal experience if it is more social than Lindsay or not as I've only visited a couple of times to see a few friends. One of my friends was in block B and there was one kitchen for the whole block so around 20 students or so sharing it. This meant that there was plenty of opportunity to meet her neighbours everyday. Another friend was in S block which was 28 students I think but there was 3 kitchens a big one in the middle floor and two small ones on the top and bottom. People usually used the middle kitchen to socialise and quite a lot of people in her block went out a lot. One other friend was in the Z sheds only 8 to a Kitchen but she said it was quite social too.

Every hall has social spaces and bars however and if you get along with your hall mates then any hall and block can be social so I wouldn't worry too much about that

Yep that's right. Band A rooms have been renovated recently compared to band B rooms. They are also usually more spacious and share a kitchen and bathroom with fewer students. Just generally nicer than band B rooms

Hope this helped

Hi,

I see your a pharmacy student at Keele. Could you tell me how many people study Pharmacy at Keele every year? What kind of people study it (races, gender ratio etc.)? Whats it like - is it tough? And what is the best accommodation for Pharmacy students? And what is Keele like for Pharmacy overall?

Hi

There's about a 100 students in each year group  All kinds of students study pharmacy at Keele we've got international students from many different countries as well as home students from different cities around the UK. It's really great! I've made friends with students as local as Stoke, as far away as Kenya and many places in between  I haven't really paid attention to the gender ratio but I'd say it's about even not completely sure though.

Yes, it is definitely a tough course and if you want good marks you'll have to work very hard. However, first year is concentrated on getting everyone on the same level so they start right from the basics and if you are struggling the lecturers are happy to help. As long as you don't leave assignments and revision last minute (I have to admit that I did this once in a while :/ don't follow my example haha!) you'll be fine!

I'd say any accommodation on campus is good for pharmacy students as the pharmacy buildings are in the centre of campus and most blocks are easy enough to get to from there. Hawthorns is a little distance away compared to the others but I had a course mate who lived there and she managed fine.

I wouldn't recommend off campus unless you are a very good time keeper as pharmacy is a really busy course and you can expect to have a some sort of session every weekday. Usually starting at 10am but there are the occasional 9am starts.

Overall, I'd say Keele is pretty good for pharmacy  I'm enjoying it so far

Hope this helped! If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask and I'll try my best to answer them
