Ah. Good to hear.

Unfortunate geography aside I do think Indonesia has a bright future.

Indonesia is a difficult country. It is comprised of some 1,700 islands, some 700 different languages and some 300 different ethnic groups, many of whom follow different religions. East Timor has already broken away and gained independence, West Papua are currently fighting for independence, and Aceh (who previous were fighting for independence) have now adopted a form a sharia law. The fact that a province of Indonesia has Sharia law shows just how strong the religious conservatives are sadly.

That said, despite the apparent impossible nature of Indonesia, somehow they have managed to unite the nation under one language (bahasa Indonesia) and since the collapse of the Suharto dictatorship in 1998, have managed to achieve a rather peaceful and democratic nation. There is a lot of corruption in the country, but there are people high up who are starting to challenge the corruption, a great example being Ahok (Basuki Purnama). Ahok has also been a vocal critic of the recent spate of death penalties given to drug smugglers.
