You'll miss out on a couple of social events but that doesn't mean you'll miss much off Freshers!

If you want to give it a read thorugh it'll make you see that a lot of what you think/know about Freshers is misconceptions, it's a big social gathering at the end of the day and they'll be plenty of other opportunities to make friends and what not!
