How to deal with racism from your own race?

My parents are originally from South Asia and I have quite dark skin. I've lived in the UK all my life and every single racist comment (not kidding) I've ever had has come from other South Asian people (especially girls), and sometimes from my own friends (as banter).

I've only ever dated outside of my own race as I honestly don't feel comfortable around other Asian girls. And it's not just me, other dark skinned Asians and dark skinned black people I know get treated the same way.

Obviously there are exceptions - I'm not saying everyone is racist - but it's so f*****g annoying having to put up with it everyday, even if they are joking around.

Why are Asian people so obsessed with skin colour?! And how do I deal with it?

The media have brainwashed people into thinking that only people of fairer skin colour are beautiful but the reality is there is beauty in all different races. Just tell them to stop the teasing etc and if they don't then ditch them because they're not friends.
It's nicer for males to have darker skin anyway

Find a different circle. Yes I know that is easier said than done, but I can relate a bit, in the sense that my own friends who were light-skinned or mixed raced used to make fun of me because I was black and darker. It didn't bother me too much, but it only started to, because that was all i was talking to for a while, and because of that I started to become self-conscious on how everyone else perceived and thought about me.

I am not saying ditch your friends, but mix with other people who aren't going to make comments that might annoy you.
what do you mean south asian like pakistani.

Kinda hard to ditch them as I've known them for 7+ years! :P
It's more that people that I don't know/ hardly know that say things which annoys me. But you're right, I should try expand my social circle.

Don't listen to the haters, walk away and be proud. You are beautiful no matter what skin colour, do not let ignorant comments put you down.
Ive read that in India they have a cast system where the Indians who are wealthy and can afford to be indoors in the cool and shade and don't have to go and work out doors have pale/light brown skin, these people are described as upper class and where Indians who work out in the sun all day doing manual labour tend to have darker skin pigment due to working long hours in the sun and are paid less and are seen as lower class, and I have heard similar about other countries using the same sort of class system to pidgion hole and stereotype people, hopefully with time this will fade as the world is becoming more educated, integrated and accepting of each others cultures and religions and differences, the so called upper classes are becoming outnumbered and the people are becoming wiser to their greed, contempt and disrespect for anyone whom they do not as being in the same class as them, if I was you I would ask myself if these are a group of your friends having a laugh with you or a group of friends having a laugh at you, and do you consider these people to be life long friends, do you see them in your life five or ten years from now and do they see you in theirs, think what YOU want to do with YOUR life and make a plan for that, never plan your life to suit or serve another unless you know there going to be a major part of your life remember as you go through life there are friends who will be life long friends, there will be friends who will be in your life a short time, there will be true friends and there will be people pretending to be your friend, I learned the hard way and I wish I had someone to give me advise on people like this but you may already know the truth about these friend/people already and just want reassurance but ultimately it's up to YOU who YOU want I'm YOUR life and it's up to YOU to let people treat YOU good and up to You to let people treat YOU badly.

Everyone is capable of racism regardless of skin colour, end of story

You don't deal with racism you just rise above it because what other people think doesn't matter.
Many middle-class, white, champagne socialist gender feminists hate white men. Hence why 'white privilege' was born into existence, alongside 'whiteness studies', and articles in the Independent like 'white men should never hold elected position in British Universities again.'

How do you deal with it? You don't. You look at them, point out their bigotry, and laugh.

Why is every other thread on this site about race? You people are obsessed, and probably very insecure, wow.
Just accept it, lighter skin doesn't always mean better looking. There are loads of dark sexy coconuts out there.
Racism from your own race doesn't exist lol. Only white people can be racist.

What? Don't you know that racism = power + prejudice. You can only be prejudiced against people of your own race, not racist.
You said only white people can be racist? Are ISIS not racist then?

OP, I know exactly what you mean. You can only hope to keep a large selection of friends who aren't South Asian in addition to these ones. And remember, nothing your friends say is out of malice (even though it can get annoying sometimes)

You don't argue with these sorts of people. Don't even bother, they will never be able to see past their own hypocrisy despite whatever logic you present.
