How to travel with gifts (a watch)

I'm going to america on holiday next month and it's my boyfriends birthday while we're away, I've bought him a watch which I wanted to give him on his birthday but I don't know how to pack it. I'm worried of putting it in checked luggage incase it gets lost or stolen, but can't take it in hand luggage incase he sees it whilst we're going through security.

Any ideas of how I can take it? I've thought about possibly taking the watch out of its box so it's not as noticeable in my hand luggage.

Put it in you main luggage, it's a very very small chance it will get lost or stolen!
