Re: jobs for 16 year oldsdid you give your national insurance number?(Original post by Tedaus)
On their website. The best time to apply is around October though probably because they've just let a load of temps go at my store and that's when they get Christmas temps in. -
Re: jobs for 16 year oldsYeah I think you have to with every job(Original post by zezima)
did you give your national insurance number? -
People are talking about finding a Job as though it really is that simple. I live in London which is supposed to be the best place to find work but it seems that it's not the case for me. I really need a weekend Job because now EMA is cut off and I need to pay for tuition and books.
Does anyone truly know a place hiring 16 year olds? -
Re: jobs for 16 year oldsI'm the exact same. People who have got jobs at sixteen just want the money for luxuries really. I need job to pay for all the books and stuff I'm going to need for a-levels and the trips I'll have to go on, it's so stressful when you genuinely need one and people are getting them for luxuries.(Original post by Whostolemycookie)

Apparently boots, h&m and next employ sixteen year olds, I've tried all three and two of them turned me down on lack of experience and I'm pretty sure the other did as well.
Nonetheless, good luck. :-) -

Always go for supermarket jobs, Tescos in particular hire at 16 (I am one!). Larger companies looking for retail staff are more likely then local businesses as often smaller brands are unsure of trading laws.(Original post by zezima)

But surely you are not allowed to actually serve alcohol.

Behind a bar in a pub or restaurant or hotel? Have the rules changed in the last 12 years? cos anyone under 18 behind a bar was not allowed to serve if they were there helping with glass washing or something. When I worked in some places I was allowed to serve beer or wine to a table where the customers were having food but not allowed to serve just that and especially behind a bar. It takes the mick really if you are allowed to serve it WITH food but obviously cannot serve behind a bar.

Re: jobs for 16 year oldsThe customer's wouldn't ask me for the drinks, I would make them up when the floor staff took the customer's orders so therefore I wasn't serving directly "behind the bar".(Original post by Claudette)

Re: jobs for 16 year olds*sighs* still an illegal practice. Seriously, if I was only allowed to wash glasses behind a bar when I was 17 (which was a long time ago) I can't see the law relaxing over time.(Original post by joie679)
I was working behind a restaurant bar, making cocktails, beers and non alcoholic drinks too to name but a few jobs. I meant that the customers wouldn't order from me, they would order from the waiting staff who would then ask me to make the drinks up. :P
I would be questioning it, but then due to your age you wouldn't be prosecuted they would be.

jobs for 16 year olds
Ok people, whenever you apply for a job and look for a job it will always take long at time you really will want to give up. I was looking for a job from when i was 15 and took me a year just to find a proper job. Personally for me the online system never works except once for waitrose but that's a different story. You have to make sure that you go straight to the manager of the store and give your CV in. On top of that keep going to the store to kind of track your progress. It sounds really bad but trust me it works! The whole reason behind this is that when the person is shifting through a pile of CVs you'll be more than just a name on a price of paper. Right now is a good time to apply because it's near to Christmas. Don't be choosy where you apply because it really won't help! Also if your getting rejections dont be disheartened because it's part of the process. You can always apply to loads of other places!

Almost 16, Need a job
I am 16 on Saturday. I have worked full time before. I am very eager to get into the world of work as soon as possible. I have a CV, which i would be happy to upload if anyone wanted to take a look or give me tips on it, then that would be great thanks.
So, really, I just wanted some tips from people about how to get a job, that also fits in with my schooling.
Thanks guys. -

Anyway, loads of big stores will have christmas temp jobs on the go at the moment so you could apply to something like that and they might keep you on and I would say that this is your best bet at the current time. There's people with far more experience than you going for basic jobs because of the climate. I'd recommend giving your c.v. into some local shops that don't have an online process meaning less competition. Other than that, whilst not glamorous, McDonalds hire a lot of young people such as your self and are pretty flexible regarding shift times.
