They'll email with what to do in you get you're insurance. I think then they ask you where you want to be, i.e. preferences, and you're interests and will put you in a Hall of residence.
I think almost all the catered halls have been filled up though.

From this year onwards Bristol University only provides guaranteed accommodation for people who firm their university. Which is pretty dumb considering how it's extremely hard to find any accommodation in Bristol this time of year :s-smilie:
LOTS of private Halls places still available - and these are far nicer than the Uni Halls as they have better facilities (ensuites ...) and are in the city centre within easy walking distance of Uni and pubs/clubs/shopping - Stoke Bishop isnt.

Just google 'bristol student accommodation' and you will find heaps of stuff still available.

Hi Guys,

If you're looking for private accommodation take a look at our Water Lane Apartments property, we've got loads of great facilities on site like a gym which are all free to use! Take a look and let us know what you think

In Bristol's defence, they only have so much accommodation available -- and if they haven't got enough to house all first years, it would be silly for them to say that they could. They can't simply magic up halls of residence from nowhere!
Last year one of the accommodation blocks wasn't finished in time before September, with the shortage of accommodation places it resulted in some people having to share single rooms.

I know this first hand...

Looks like they've scraped the policy of guaranteeing accommodation to insurers to try to free up some space.

That's because they're letting in more students now than ever before. Also, I'm a Bristol student already, I love the university! I know it's not their fault, they need the funding they acquire with more students. But that doesn't make it any easier on new students, seeing as they have around only a month to find accommodation when 1st years are encouraged to start seeking accommodation for the second year pretty much as soon as they arrive.

I'm had Bristol as an insurance and it turns out I'm going there, so I went on their website and attempted to apply. Surprisingly it let me, saying it 'guarantees me a place', but not necessarily where I chose.

Have a look here: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/accommodation/undergraduate/apply/ and see if when you press apply your details work and let you through. I believe it said you have until the end of this month to apply to be guaranteed a place..

I will ring them next week (and update here if you would like) to double check this is the case and not a glitch in the system as it would suck to be declined a spot thinking I had one in a month!

No applicant is guaranteed their first choice. If you think about it, that would clearly be unfeasible - there are only a finite number of place in each Hall.

There are PLENTY of other places to live in Bristol beside the formal Uni Halls - and these are often a better deal. They are newer buildings, all have ensuites, and they are much closer to both the Uni and the centre of town - no long bus journeys every time you want to go anywhere or get home after a night out, They are equally 'social' and people have a great time living there.
