of course. just like how there's nothing wrong with reading mein kampf.

Nah, I think you'd get called out for reading it on the tube.

It's funny how you say Mein Kampf is worse- of course it inspired the slaughter of millions of Jews, Slavs, etc., but then think about all the millions who have also died under communist regimes ie Mao and Stalin

I think it's probably because Mein kampf was written by Hitler who went on to commit genocide and do all those atrocities whereas TCM has indirectly 'caused' all the other brutal communist regimes. Whilst reading TCM although I found it a brutal attack on capitalism, it does advocate workers' rights which is something I agree with. However I doubt there's anything I agree with in Mein Kampf.

Also I can see where Marx is coming from, but like many I agree that although Communism sounds good on paper, it would probably never work

I think socialism/communism could work and could instil itself into the west one day, because all the times it has failed has been because of government corruption and not adhering to the communist tenets. Like in Mao's China, he encouraged violence and made a system were it was revenge that ruled and not the good of the people. If a richer country could possibly do it, without limiting freedom of speech, who knows?

People often imagine that they won't agree with Hitler but I bet if I posted a 25 point plan and changed Germany to Britain and Jews to Muslims there'd be a good number of people applauding it.

Remember that whether you think he practiced it or not, Hitler did believe in National Socialism and so there are many things the protectionist variant of the left would probably love.

I'm not a communist/Marxist - I'm reading it out of interest but people were giving me a few weird looks. do people actually find it offensive?

Reading out loud anything that is not funny in public will get you weird looks.

People might believe you are supporting and encouraging people to support nazi ideas. That's not too far from inciting people to hate.
It's important that no-one is barred from expressing his/her opinions or feelings, as everyone has a right to a voice. As long as they don't physically start to harass people or intentionally hurt them, then why shouldn't someone be allowed to express their views in public, as long as they don't meddle with the happiness of others?

I think communism is infinitely worse than fascism, make no mistake about it

The average person on a tube may not agree with you.

I agree, communism is an impossible ideology to apply.
