Is Gov. and Politics hard?

I wanted to know if the subject was tough as I am struggling to decide between Politics or Philosophy as they are both new to me and I think I enjoy them equally. I would prefer responses from people studying the Edexcel board but would welcome responses from any others.
Hi there! Although I have not personally studied Philosophy, I've just finished studying two years of Edexcel Government and Politics, so can share my experience of that with you.

Personally, I didn't do as well as I would have liked to, but do not let that put you off. It is a fascinating subject and, so long as you have a half decent teacher, you can have fun learning large parts of it. The things that you need to take into consideration (things that in hindsight, I should have too) are:

- Essays: All essay based with no Coursework.
- Content: Mainly aimed at A2 but still applies to AS. There is a large amount of content to cover and revise, don't underestimate it.
- Current affairs: You need to be actively keeping up to date with the political world around you to be scoring the higher marks.

As I said, you can have a great deal of fun with Government and Politics but keep in mind, it is a harsh mistress if you do not pay her the attention she needs. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Best of luck!

Politics is very interesting and so long as you can write an essay you should do ok in it. Everything else just depends on how much time and effort you put in. So I wouldn't say its 'hard' or 'easy'. :P

Its a hard for a social science, but its still relatively easy, I did bio and chem alongside it and it was by far the easiest subject I did, like i mean i studied every day for my sciences but only once a month for politics. But no A level is easy tbh

Provided you are engaged with current affairs and practise exam technique, there is no reason why you'd find it difficult. I ought to add though, it may seem easy once you've started, but you simply must put in the effort and prepare yourself for the type of exam questions. It's very easy to underestimate the difficulty of the subject.
Hey i just finished study 2 years of gov and politics and im going studying politics and international relation in September and i can tell u now its not a hard subject and trust me i thought it was difficult at first but i slowly started to learn techniques of how to get the best marks and if i knew these things i would have done better than i did
1) one thing i should tell u is that the most important thing for AS and A2 is the ability to link always try to compare so like in AS if you talking about Constitution bring in stuff from unit 1 about democracy or like if your talking about political ideologies compare the different political thought i.e conservatives think were born imperfects whilst socialist blame society ( examiner love it cuz then they know u know your stuff and you able to explain yourself )
2) EXAMINER REPORTS - one thing i massively regret is not know the usefulness of examiner report earlier on cuz they basically the most useful things in the whole A level politics cuz the examiner basically show u examples of what you should write and what you shouldn't do and i would recommend it for A2 if your studying ideologies cuz it helps when your not sure what to do
3) news article are useful as well cuz then you have a form of extra reading which can be used as examples and one thing examiner want is a wide range of example like in my school our politics teacher got us to bring a news article every lesson
4) ESSAY practice lemme just tell you now politics is all about practice and essay writing and you hand will get tired especially when u have 1hr and 30 minute to write 4 essays in A2 but don't worry that why u should practice cuz it helps with timing and helps you to pick out the important things to write
i hope these help if you need any help i dont mind helping :u:

Hi I started year 11 this year and starting to think about my a-levels and one of them is gov and politics, I was wondering if a combination of English lit, gov and politics and sociology and as a fourth health and social at a level and then consider dropping it in second year if I must, would be good like does g&p links to them ?

I'm doing sociology and politics for A2. I got an A in both
I was originally gonna drop AS politics because I found it boring and didn't like the teacher..but luckily USA politics is so much more interesting and my teacher left..
I'll be honest, I didn't revise a lot. I revised for a week and crammed 3 hrs before hand using my revision guide and some revision materials I got off the student room. I kept getting C's in my essays so when I got an A (89% and 83%) I was shocked!
