International Hall - how strict

So I've been reading about how International Hall is one of the strictest residences out there, but just how strict is strict?

- Is it true you have to pay £1.50 for every overnight guest? And where in other halls, they've been able to sneak in their guests without signing up, has anyone been able to do it in International Hall?

- the guidance says no heating appliances such as hairdryers and straightening irons in the rooms, as well as no power strips (extension leads) - which sounds like a drag given that there will most probably be only 2 sockets. How well is this followed or implemented? Do they search the bags or drawers?
