For obvious reasons I have to be very discreet with this post.

Like all of us, I have been trying my hardest not to run up debts while studying. My parents can help me to a certain extent, but the bills keep on coming in.

A few months ago I became aware that a friend of mine (Not a student. She works in a bar in south Manchester) had started working as an escort. I was horrified at first. I am not shy and could even be described as promiscuous, but selling sex seemed a bit much, like a massive taboo.

However, the fact is that she is now earning a lot of money, usually into 4 figures every week. You can't help but wondering who is being the fool when you yourself are struggling to make ends meet and someone else is suddenly able to afford the things that you can only dream of.

I did a bit of digging and was amazed to see how many girls are doing this job while claiming to be studying. OK, so I am tempted to join them. As I understand it, it isn't illegal to actually have sex for payment and with the use of condoms, how is it risking my sexual health more than with a random on a Saturday night?

So is there anyone on here who has any experience of this lifestyle? Any good reasons (please, do NOT lecture me about respecting my body, or start coming out with any religious stuff) not to do it? Frankly, my friend makes it sound too easy to be true.

Had some similar experience. All I will say is, it is not worth your mental health. Your friend probably thinks she is coming out winning, but I still look back and wonder how i could let myself me used even 3 years later. The feeling of worthlessness from that period never goes away.

No, prostitution itself isn't illegal, but brothels and doing things like approaching people on the street are illegal.

You have a point, and I see what you are saying, but tbh I won't look back at a lot of my sexual activity with a great deal of pride when I am older. I guess that if I ever get married that there will be a lot of things that I have to keep private. No, I don't sleep around all the time, but I am just saying that I am quite liberated and I guess sleeping with a lot of people isn't something that bothers me as such.

It's hard to explain what I mean. I guess I am worried more about meeting weirdos. Can you refuse services that you don't enjoy, etc? The actual morality of it I think I can cope with.

Also very dangerous, I would imagine. That's one of the things that I have researched: bad things happening to working girls. In about 90% of cases bad things seem to happen to street walkers, the rest being girls in brothels who get the pissed up clients on a Saturday night. I would be advertising online (as my friend does) and hand on heart I can say that I have found little or no evidence of incidents involving girls who work from home and advertise online.

Which, of course, in no way means that bad things don't happen to girls who work that way. That is one of the things that I was hoping people could tell me about. All I can say is that my friend claims to have met nothing but gentlemen while she has been doing the job.

That's honestly SO naive. You are inviting STRANGERS into your home. The kind of men who look for sex on the internet are not the kind of men you would want knowing where you live. Your friend 'claims' all of these things. Of course she's not going to tell you about the fat greasy smelly slobs that she has to have sex with is she?
