Need some help im desperate

I've been looking for a job for the past year but I've had no luck at all. No where is hiring and if they are they are looking for managers or offering full time positions. I thought I hit the jackpot when I asked in Iceland if they were hiring and a very excited member of staff ran to get me an application form. I handed it in the following day and a month later they never contacted me. I tried again with next but they were polite enough to say they didn't want me. So I thought I should maybe volunteer at a charity shop and again they seemed very keen and again they haven't replied. That was a week ago. I'm not sure about charity shops but shouldn't they respond sooner. Anyway my point is im desperate for a job, is there anything else I could do to help with my job hunt?
