Looks very beautiful to me, like a mini kingdom.

Why not? No other uni outside of Oxbridge currently offers group teaching in the UK?

My uni has tutorials of around size 2-4?

It will be one of the boldest moves any major multi-faculty university has ever made.

I'm pretty confident that in 5-8 years time, people will be saying Noxbridge, especially after the 10 year master plan for each campus is completed.
It'll probably be doxbridge or Woxbridge

Doubt it'll be noxbridge tho

Do you actually like it there? Would it have been perhaps better to have gone to UCL?

It won't be Woxbridge or Doxbridge, as Warwick and Durham don't rake in enough annual income to come anywhere near Oxbridge.

Yeah, I really enjoy it here. Why do you ask about UCL? There are several reasons why - Imperial is better...definitely better for both my original course (Maths and CS) and straight Maths, didn't like UCL's campus and the location is fab (it's SW7). Imperial was always my second choice after Oxford and UCL was the third choice I didn't fancy being at. Asian parents meant that I would have been crazy to choose Imperial over UCL lol. UCL is still a really good uni, though. My friend is loving her time there, too.

I would have gone for UCL purely because it is more trendy, and the fact that it is multi-faculty.
A fair point. To squash any doubts of yours that I may be a stalker, I also had an offer for Imperial maths in 2014 entry, and i've seen you on the IB threads

Dunno what trendy is meant to mean here...but being in South Kensington rules. UCL because it's not full of science nerds? lol. I don't see how it being multifaculty should matter. Even so, at Imperial you can take a course called Horizons throughout the year for two hours a week where you can choose anything from Music Tech to about ten different languages at different levels to Philosophy.

Haha no I didn't think you were! I do remember your username; where are you at and how's uni?

I am afraid neither Nottingham nor any other large university can afford to do this properly. You might be able to sign up enough "teaching only" post-docs on hourly paid contracts to cover the number of hours required; but you wouldn't be able to do this with academics with balanced careers of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and research. Moreover, the flatter the academic pyramid the less likely you are to retain talented academics. If there is only a 1 in 20 or 1 in 30 chance of an hourly paid lecturer getting a "real" job, they would rather work in Loughborough or Leicester with say a 1 in 5 chance.

Student fees do not get anywhere near covering the cost of undergraduate teaching at Oxbridge.

Although HEFCE are looking to pull the extra specialist institution funding oxbridge currently gets. They're re-badging it so only universities/colleges that specialise in a specific subject are eligible (http://www.hefce.ac.uk/media/HEFCE,2014/Content/Pubs/2015/201510/HEFCE2015_10.pdf ).

I'm sure both Oxford and Cambridge will have no trouble securing the equivalent funds elsewhere - but I'm surprised they're not making more of a fuss about it publicly.

I wonder what OFFA will say about diverting funds from Oxbridge to the Courtauld, Heythrop, RCM and RCA?
