Tinnitus at 16, anyone else?

HiI got tinnitus when I was 16, due to listening to music all the time, and going to gigs... Now i'm 23 years old, so I've had it for about 7 years. Just want to see is there anyone else who has developed tinnitus at a young age?
What is it?
I'm the OP by the way, don't know why I posted anonymously XD

I had it briefly where my ears wouldn't stop ringing, so i just stopped using headphones/earphones for a few days and it managed to sort itself out.

Basically, it's a permanent ringing noise that only you can hear. If you've ever came back home from a nightclub and heard a ringing noise, that's what tinnitus is. It can be pulsating or constant.

Unfortunately for me, it's constant and I've had it since I was 17 (now 23). I thought it was because I was listening to my iPod really loudly and for a long time, but the ENT specialists and Hearing Therapist said otherwise. I'm not too sure if they're right. Sometimes for unknown reasons it can get super loud, though it is usually affected by your lifestyle i.e. stress levels.

You're lucky it stopped! I wish mine had. I cant believe I've had it for so many years, and will have it for the rest of my life. Although i'm used to it now xD.

Wow, finally someone else!
yes, mine can also get super loud sometimes but mostly when im out during the day I hardly notice it. But it gets really loud at night.
I've completely stopped listening to headphones and loud music now.
I don't get it constantly but I get it quite a few times (I'm 18) but the "ringing" I hear sounds like a hoover or just like a button being pressed for a long time:ninja:

When I went to see a Hearing Therapist, she suggested some things that may lower the volume such as having the windows opened so you can hear the wind, listening to soft music (classical, sea waves etc…), and going out for walks lessens the severity of your tinnitus.

My GP said that I was extremely young to have this, which was a bit saddening tbh as I already have a few other problems that young people haven't gone through yet. Yeah, I threw my earphones in the bin because I know that I can easily take it out of the cardboard and plug it in again. I've also been to a concert (Taylor Swift), just a few months ago and the Alpine ear plugs work a treat! So if you ever want to go to a festival, invest in some ear plugs!

Yeah I know, its a shame that I didn't think about the damage I was doing to my ears back then. Or didn't think about it. Me too, I ripped up all of my headphones, because I would of got the erg to listen use them! Aha, yes thanks for the tip, I think my concert days are well over though.

Just want to ask how do you deal with the dentist? I get dental cleanings like 3 times a year, and the noise of the tools are so loud! I'm always scared that the noises are going to make my tinnitus worse. I've tried ear plugs, but seeing as the tools are inside the mouth, next to the ears they don't seem to work....

Personally I don't get affected by the drilling noise, I've never even thought about it until now. Since it only lasts for a few minutes, I don't think it would significantly affect your tinnitus.
Does having tinnitus bother you much?
I got it by the time I was 14 through going to a lot of gigs.

Invested in some good earplugs in the end.

It doesn't bother me at all as i'm so used to it now, its the norm. It would be weird if I didn't hear the ringing!.
But I just get worried sometimes, cause I don't want to make it any worse/louder.
It's not the same thing, but I suffered from labyrinthitis for a few weeks, and it was absolutely horrible. I imagine it must be incredibly frustrating?

Does it interfere with your day-to-day life?

Not really, when I'm out and focused on other things I hardly notice it to be honest, unless I actually focus on it. Its only at night it when it seems very loud, or when there's no noise and it's quiet. But I am sooo used to the ringing, that it seems like i'm meant to hear ringing if that makes sense?

Right now, my ear is blocked so it's doubled in volume in one ear. But i'm just ignoring it xD.
