Numbering carbon atoms in fructose and glucose

I'm not quite sure about how to do this

When I did my AS biology this is how I learnt it for alpha glucose it was
Down, down, up, down, in the group and beta up
So
The first oh will be on carbon 1 and that will be down so the one just below the O near the Ch2oh
Then you just just label the rest
So you start off with the one, with the first oH group and label it carbon one
Then down , down, up, down,in the group
I hope you get it aha
It's more understandable using paper

Hey! I'm sorry but what do you mean by "down, down,up down" and "group"? When I'm at the first carbon, I can go to the carbon below it, which I presume is number 2? Where do I go from there?

-Okay so start from carbon one, that's when the OH group is down
- then the second carbon the oh group is down
- 3rd carbon the OH group is up
-4th carbon it's down
5th is CH2OH and I just call it in the group to stop u confusing it with the other carbons

Ohhhh, thank you very much for your help! By any chance, do you have an idea about how I would go about with numbering carbons for fructose?

I guess for this one just keep drawing it out and labelling it until you get the hang of it

Good luck x
