Is it normal to just suddenly lose interest in video games?

1) Firstly, this is an opinions forum, so I gave my opinion. Stop whinging and lashing out because someone criticised something you like

I could have told you to stop whinging as well. But I didn't. See how meaningless what you said was...

2) Secondly, I value meaningful relationships, social interaction and having fun going out with other people visiting new places - living my actual life, not somebody else's on a screen because my own life is so dull - now, if you and others find that a waste of time, fair enough, but don't cry when you have no friends because you spent all of your time finger blitzing yourself to Lara Craft's virtual backside.

"I value meaningful relationships". Considering that 'valuable' and 'meaningful' are synonyms you once again have said absolutely nothing.

"living my actual life". Here we go again.

So the only hobby that you have communicated is that you like to write nonsense on an internet forum. Interesting person...

Its not hard to grasp is it? I enjoy going out and living my actual life and experiencing new things with friends. You enjoy sitting indoors playing video games wasting time you could be out doing things far more worthwhile. If you think that video games are worthwhile, that is your own choice, but one day, mark my words, you'll grow up, and get a sense of perspective and realise they don't mean a thing.

"experiencing new things". be less vague please

1) If you knew anything about me you wouldn't tell me those things. How old do you think I am? What career do you think I have?

I hope this helps you understand how much I actually care about this discussion.

Do you not realise you can play video games and enjoy going out and living an 'actual life.' Shocking, I know.

Yes. Do you not realise that video games use up time when you play them and if you don't play them that you can spend more time living an actual life? Shocking, I know.

Eh, so you're telling me every moment you're awake you're doing something, you never relax, watch tv, listen to music, watch films? any of that? just constantly doing things? how boring.

You couldn't stop yourself could you  Stop caring.
Yup normal don't worry, I loved gaming and it took most of my free time but these days I only play ones with a good campaign and storyline. It's usual for me to complete up to two games a year, or so and I rarely re-play them anymore except for my old favourites.

Yes, I'm doing something productive. The only thing I do thats a waste of time really is come on here, which I am honest enough to admit.

I very rarely watch television and if I do, its only because I'm at a friends or whatever. In terms of sport, I'd rather go to a live event with friends. With music, I can still listen to that whilst being productive so its a non starter.

No offence but the fact you are unable to understand its a waste of time is alarming. Why are you so in denial about doing something that is such a waste of time? If you did something more productive with that time you could learn and do so much more that would have a positive impact on your life.

I haven't touched video games in a long time but I'm just saying the way you word it makes it seem like the consumption of any form of media is a waste of time when in reality if the person watching/playing/listening is enjoying themselves it isn't really a waste of time at all. Just because everyone isn't like you or has your world view doesn't mean they're wasting their time imo. Hell, some people use gaming to socialise, I know I used to a few years ago, sometimes it's extremely useful.

I spent much of my teenage years playing video games - I've got almost 200 titles in my Steam library and I used to be able to spend hours on end playing. But for some reason, I just seem to have lost interest. I can't seem to play a normal game now for more than half an hour or so without getting disinterested. It's been months since I've actually properly played a AAA title. The only ones that seem to interest me now are narrative-driven Indies that are more like stories than games.

I can't say I feel sad about this, just a bit weird. The thing I've spent most of my free time on for the past 10 years is suddenly totally uninteresting to me. Has anyone else felt that way?

I know exactly what you mean. I used to be a fiend all through school, I played video games for hours and hours and hours during the day and even into the small hours of the night.

Sometimes what you find as you get older is that your priorities change. Often there isn't enough time to play video games, you have more important things to attend to. It's all part of growing up and finding your value in society.

materialistic superficial form of entertainment .

There are people who make millions through gaming, the industry employs hundreds of thousands.

You cannot superimpose you're idea of what constitutes productiveness and a good life dude, it's a very immature thing to do.

It seems you've come on here to make yourself feel better about your life in comparison to others.

I say this because you assume playing video games axiomatically means you have no friends, aren't productive and
have no social life. Why? This is of course an extreme, most people play 2-3 hours a day at most.
You seem very keen to generalize - either for your own amusement (trolling) or to make yourself feel like
an ambassador for living life to the fullest.

Either way, please stop. You come across as somebody who talked out of their arse a lot.

No. I stopped playing video games when I grew up at the age of 19 and realised that materialistic superficial form of entertainment doesn't matter in the slightest.

Nothing really matters. We are all just tiny blip in history soon to be forgotten.

I think every video gamer gets burned out on video games after a while. It's perfectly normal and I think you'll enjoy gaming more if you stay away from it for some time.

Generally games aren't produced well anymore, they are just grey and bland full of microtransactions and DLC. I actually find it more fun to do some maths than play my steam library XD

It depends what you want from a game nowadays. Is say, MGS V Phantom Pain also not very well produced? What are you after personally?

Yes,because I have lab monkeys for teammates every time on World of Tanks.Fed up of dog**** teams and teamkilling Russian players.I swear my teammates couldn't tell their are from their elbow if they had a flashlight and a map of Europe.

Not to mention to other things like heavy tanks camping behind TDs and people shots not landing in the same postcode as where the enemy are.
It's normal if you play a bunch of 'ok' games in a row, or regurgitated sequels like FIFA and Assassin's Creed all the time. But then you play Last of Us or Yakuza or something and remember why games are amazing.

Also happens if you spend all your time playing games rather than just for leisure, and wonder where all this time is going and what the point is.

Also happens if you're the kind of guy to keep playing a game that's 'ok' just to see the end, or just because it's alright, 7/10. A habit from the days when games were few, and expensive, and we were kids so only had a handful anyway at the whim of parents. No longer applicable a decade or two later with so many free games, GoG, key sites and Steam sales, and a history of consoles and games to play. If a game isn't getting us going, we have thousands more to move on to instead.
