BMAT and UKCAT

Can you take the BMAT without taking the UKCAT if the universities you are applying to say that they require BMAT?

Wouldn't you be limiting your choices though? How many med schools require BMAT rather than UKCAT?

Which exam are you more suited to - does the BMAT have a fair number of marks riding on a essay question?

You are able to only take the BMAT, however this would restrict your UCAS Medicine choices to only BMAT universities (Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, UCL, BSMS, Leeds, Lancaster).

Most people recommend taking the UKCAT as well as it not only increases the number of universities that you can apply to but also the UKCAT (compared to the BMAT) has the advantage of you receiving your score immediately, prior to submitting your UCAS choices.

(ie. you could sit the UKCAT, and if you don't perform as well as you would have hoped, you can ignore the score and apply to all BMAT universities if you wish). Hope that makes sense!
