Ooh exciting! I am new to this forum but finding it so helpful already.

I will be applying for Adult Nursing to Southampton, Surrey and Brighton.
I am a mature student at 30 with 2 children so been trying to juggle it all in my head and its already giving me a headache but just going for it anyway!
I am a clinical volunteer in A&E and also a First Aider with St John Ambulance.
Trying to apply for my Open University access course today but struggling with funding info.

Good luck everyone!
Hi!

Branch: Adult Nursing
Uni(s) applying to: Staffordshire, Keele (attending open days this month)
Relevant experience/extra info: I am currently a volunteer HCA in the inpatient unit of a hospice. I am just waiting for DBS/occupational health/references clearance to volunteer at the hospital. I am signing up to become a first aider for the Red Cross and start group tomorrow evening. I will become a first aider for work after taking the ambulance service 3 day course at the end of September. Experience of caring for my mum.

Worrying that I won't have enough experience by the time I want to send application in as the only solid thing I have atm is the HCA in hospice (though probably the most useful).

I'd say your experience is fabulous! Just remember to relate it to nursing and what transferable skills you've learnt.

Hi guys, luckily I'm starting in March so already have my place confirmed!

Branch: Adult
Uni: Salford
Relevant experience: I am currently working as a HCA in a prison and also work for NHS professionals on the wards and A&E for extra pocket money!

Good luck with your applications!

I think the unis are not looking at just your skills. They want to know what qualities you have as a person which will make you a fabulous nurse. They want to know that you care, have compassion and great interpersonal skills etc. There will be people who have had no healthcare experience so try not to worry too much about your background. You just need to make sure you get across the type of person that you are (and that you're awesome obviously 😉).

Hey Linsy,

It's great to hear you're thinking about Staffs - just thought I'd let you know that I'm the Official Rep on TSR so if you've got any questions, let me know. You can also check out our FAQ thread here. Best of luck with your application!

Thank you and no not yet! I am needing to chase up a reference and then attend a training session before I can start. I am hoping to attend the other interview next week and then get the reference for my current role. Then whilst I wait to find out whether I have been successful for the children's centre role I can work with people with learning disabilities. Do you think that is bad?

If I am honest I just can't wait to start work, as I am all prepared to apply for uni!

I think with jobs you sometimes have to be 'selfish' in that you need to make sure you have one - if you get a better job elsewhere then it's fine to leave. Could you do both? Maybe go bank with the LD job? I'm sure it will work out
I'm trying to find a nannying job and hopefully have an interview next week
I'd LOVE to work at a children's centre - what job is it?
Yeah,I know and I could do that but the other position is full time, so really this isn't practical. Good luck with finding a nannying job and good luck with your interview next week! The children's centre job is titled family practitioner, so I will be working with children and their families, which would look really, really good on my personal statement and if I get an interview then I think it will impress them!! Thankfully though my personal statement is ready to be sent off, just waiting for a reference and my first EVER wage packet!
Hi All!

Branch: Childrens Nursing
Uni(s) applying to: Teesside
Relevant experience/extra info: I'll be 43 when I start the course if accepted! 15 years experience working with children and families in various settings but never worked in a hospital. Currently work in NHS on Health Visiting Team as Community Nursery Nurse. I've got two young children and a permanent job so thought of leaving is quite daunting but I really want to do it! :-) X
Hi all 😊

Branch: Children's nursing
Uni(s) applying to: Manchester, Salford, Edge hill and not sure which two out of Chester, LJMU and Uclan.

Relevant experience: I have worked in a day nursery, in a special needs primary school (and learnt sign language whilst there), I'm currently a volunteer in a hospital, I have paediatric first aid and I've also worked in the reception class of a mainstream primary school.

Hopefully I have done enough to get me a place in uni! Currently planning personal statement atm. I'm doing access to health and nursing at college and they have set 13th Nov as our deadline to send UCAS off.

Wow, you've got great work experience!

What's making you want to do children's nursing instead of adult? You've still got plenty of time to decide, don't worry!
