Bike storage

I'd like to bring my bicycle to uni but it's pretty expensive.

I was wondering what the bike storage is like?

Is it covered under the accommodation insurance?

How safe is it?

If not, what/where is the best and safest place to store my bike.

It depends on which residence you're going to. I know at least some of them have bike storage facilities - I'm not sure about insurance or how safe it is, though.

Note that the basic policy doesn't cover bicycles. It can be extended to cover bicycles, but it looks expensive (clicking through links to the insurer's web page indicates £32.99 for £250 of cover; £67.99 for up to £500.)

Check to see if your bike is covered under your home insurance already -- if it is, you might not need further cover. Be sure to read the policy wording carefully.

If you're planning to ride to lectures/library, bear in mind that cycle parking is outside and you'll need a good lock.

You might prefer to get a cheap bike that's not going to attractive to thieves!
