We have an enormous tax short fall which will only get bigger with time.

It's morally the right thing to do. I don't think we have much control over it now, we shouldn't of got involved in the middle east, it appears to of back fired.

Tax short? Please. These refugees will be on benefits for years before they provide taxes (unlikely) and will almost only provide unskilled labour, which we can import far easier from other countries if needed (which it isn't).

The only reason they are alive is thanks to our more than generous donations and aid. I'll give you that I could see why we have a duty to save lives, but we do not have an obligation to increase their quality of life or career potential.

I do too, in principle/the abstract e.g. on a desert island; however, in practice (acknowledging certain social/security realities), I cannot condone its use. It is a symbol of division/source of discontent/distrust, of oppression/subjugation, and a potential security threat

Tensions are clearly rising in the region, and some countries are tooling/gearing up, including calling up army personnel. It won't take much for things to escalate and then you will see ripples right around Europe (you can count on Austro-Hungary being a flashpoint as well, perhaps, as Germany). The right wing in the region never went away, they were just suppressed by a generation of liberal elite capitalists ~ politicians ~ legislators ~ other leaders/'authority' figures, all marching to Western tune of tolerance in the context of globalisation et. economic selfishness (emphasis on certain fundamental social/psychological realities being ignored/muted, by comparison)
