Shoulder pain when doing wide-grip pullups

I can only do 5-6 reps before being unable to lift myself - have to finish the set with regular grip. Is this a question of flexibility (or lack of)? Anyone with similar experiences?

Oh well. Guess I'll keep at it, maybe narrow my grip :gthumb:

Try tensing up your traps and dropping your shoulders.

Why? Are they bad for you in general or am I doing something wrong

Will do.
I can't do wide-grip pull ups either since I snapped my shoulder

Bad for you in general and not necessary if you do normal chins.

Agree with rollerball. Just do them shoulder width apart or do chins. Wide grip has never felt good on my shoulders tbh

Make sure you retract your scapula before you start
Seeing as you haven't had a definitive answer, I had a further look. Found this video, which should hopefully help.

Very interesting, I do indeed lean back a little too much.

This will cause more pain!

your Scapula need to move with the shoulder joint. that's what a pullup works, from shrugged and upward rotated scapula to depressed and downward rotated.
