I am not sure if you are able to answer this but I'm in the current year 12 so as you are aware, I have to do Linear A levels for biology and chemistry. I am planning to apply for medicine next year so how will I be assessed academically if I have no AS level grades? Thank you so much!

You can put it in the SAQ - there are several sections where it could go. Yes, getting close to the 1 boundary would certainly help you, especially given that you took it very early indeed.

Could I put it in the COPA, since I'm doing that; where should I put it?
Yay my fave thread is back!

Quick question - I'm applying for Economics which, as you'll know of course, is very maths heavy. Last year I ended up sitting Maths A2 and also Further Maths AS, meaning this year I just have another 3 modules to do to make up the FM A2. I'm also taking Econ, Spanish & History to A2 Level now. Would it be of any advantage for me to take extra maths modules, or to look at doing an AS in Additional Further Maths? I'd need to change exam boards but apparently it's possible, I haven't looked into it too much. It's just 3 maths modules this year doesn't seem like much in comparison to everyone else. I'd probably have to drop either Spanish or History, as otherwise I think I'd just be putting too much on myself.

So basically, is it worth taking more maths instead of an essay subject/language? Or should I just stick with what I've got as eventually I'll have 12 modules, the same as most others? Thank you!

Hello, what would you say your standard offer for the European Baccaleaurate is?

85-90 in the European Bacc, probably closer to 90 with 90 in particular subjects relevant for the course.

Hi!

Thanks for answering these questions. I was wondering if you're able to provide me with the number of medicine applicants that applied in the cycle that has just ended as well as how many of them received interviews and offers? I realise this is a very tedious task, my apologies.

Thanks you.

No problem, you are welcome. We had 1289 applicants for Medicine this year. I can't give definite figures for interviews and offers as I don't have them but around 400 were not called for interview this year and there are usually around 280 offers.

How many with 95.0 or above in 2015?

122 out of 593 who had a best three average.

Is UMS average for the 3 most relevant AS level subjects or the full 4?

Posted from TSR Mobile

Best 3 for Humanities, best three Science/Maths for Science subjects. We do take a best 4 average as well but it isn't used as extensively as the best 3.

We are quite used to dealing with applicants without UMS - 42% of the Medicine field last year didn't have UMS. Applicants will not be disadvantaged if they have not taken AS Levels. We are going to announce more details about how we will handle admissions post UMS at some point soon, probably early next year, and will communicate this to schools and applicants in due course.

Yes you can - in the section for UMS scores or in the additional PS box or in the box where you can tells us anything else you want us to know.

Hello and it's nice to be back answering questions again! We haven't fixed the exact dates yet but I can narrow them down a bit more than the first three weeks. They will be sometime between Monday 7 and Wednesday 16 December (excluding the weekend). There will be interviews probably on three or four of these days and you can tell us when the CERN trip is and we can try to ensure that the dates do not clash if at all possible - we try to be as flexible as we can, just email the college after you have made your application.

Thanks for the reply  Sadly my trip is right in the middle of the interview period :frown:
But awesome, I always thought interview dates cannot be changed and such so I was thinking I'd have to pay for the trip and end up not going if I am unlucky...but looks like not! I'll make sure to email whichever college I end up making a final decision on

How is the SAQ photo used?

Warning: if you get in, it will be your student ID photo. Pick one you'll be happy with, mine is soooo awful!

Tell me about it lmao, when I had to sort out all the Raven and CamSIS stuff a few weeks ago, I was presented that photo once more :u: It is literally the most awkward facial expression known to man

Hello,
I know similar questions have been asked already, but is it a disadvantage to have only 3 A levels instead of 4, specifically for the biological natural science course?
Also, I've heard that the number of applicants is increasing every year, does this mean our chances of getting an offer this year will be less than the last or will the uni accept more students?
Thanks!

Is it used in the admissions process?

I think it's so that they have the right person when interviewing aka someone can't do the interview for you. AT will confirm/correct me.

Thanks, it's nice to be back and I hope you get your flight back tomorrow!

Funnily enough I was talking about this very issue with my Economics DoS the other day and she told me that you really only need A Level Maths for the Economics course but what FM does is give a good indication of how far students have and are able to understand more difficult concepts - this is why Maths is compulsory but FM isn't.

Cambridge has put a lot of emphasis on the amount of Maths in Economics and that has been a good thing on the whole in helping to attract good candidates and helping people avoid making a mistake in applying if Maths isn't their strong point. What is sometimes forgotten, however, is that a lot of the course is assessed through essays and therefore writing is important.

In short, then, it isn't necessary to do more Maths and it would be better to keep your History and Spanish rather than taking on more modules.

I hope that helps.!

As has been suggested above, it is used on your University card. In admissions it is used to help identify that the right candidate has turned up and it is also helpful when discussing candidates in decision meetings to remind you of who you are discussing. When you are discussing scores of candidates in a meeting then a photo can act as a great aide d'memoir and is much better than trying to remember simply by looking at the notes you took.

Actually, there were fewer Nat Sci applicants to Cambridge for 2015 than in 2014., largely due to the move to 2 A*s. There were fewer applicants in total as well.

It's not a disadvantage to have 3 A Levels for Nat Sci Bio as long as they are three Maths/Sciences. The only subjects where four confers an advantage over three are Nat Sci Phys ( and only if you want to specialise in Physics) and Engineering, and only then when the four are Maths, FM, Physics and Chemistry.

Hi,
I've recently completed my personal statement, but there are no extracurriculars on it. I've only talked about the course I'm applying to (maths), things I've done to do with maths, and what I think of maths. Should I add some extracurriculars or is this alright? I've received contradictory advice off different people regarding this.
Thanks
Hi! Can you tell me how many applicants for Law last year, across the university, had a 98% average or above?? Thanks :smile:

Welcome back! And to what extent is the above true ?
