Translating "-ing" in German?? help please

Hi, I'd like to translate: "Thank you for contacting me," into German but am not sure how because of the "contacting." Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!
Can you not get around it by saying thankyou for your letter?

You'd use a "daß*"-clause: "Vielen Dank, daß* Sie sich bei mir gemeldet haben".


*"dass", if you're a supporter of new spelling

"Daß" isn't the only possible way of translating "-ing" (there's others like "um zu" constructions), but it's the correct one in this case. It really depends on the context, though, I'm afraid.:frown:
