People shaming wanting to lose weight?

Okay so I like to run because I feel I am too wobby and would like to be less so. I'm like 7 and a half stone so I'm not overweight, in fact I'm pretty slim but I'd just like to have less fat.

But when I tell people when they ask that I run to try and reduce the fat particularly on my stomach and legs, they're always like 'oh my god you SO don't need to lose weight you are soooo skinny' and I feel like this is really wrong? Why should they be shaming something I enjoy doing because they think I shouldn't want to lose fat to make myself feel more confident?

Does anyone get this?

Yeah when I was younger I needed to put weight on, then when I did people said I needed to lose weight. So in the end I just don't what other people saying or thing. Well, apart from one person. :h:

It isn't making me stop wanting to lose my fat but like I don't think it's fair for people to encourage fat people to lose weight but when a 'skinny' person is trying to lose weight and be healthy they get shamed for it too, unless they're like super muscley or a personal trainer. I just want people to stop???

You can't constrain people like that. :s-smilie: Sorry. Maybe just stop hanging around with those people?

A lot of people will try to belittle you for trying to do good for yourself to make themselves feel better. I get this sometimes and (in my opinion) I am not thaat slim. Just do what you enjoy and never mind them.

Also if you are already slim and want to get leaner, it would be worth adding strength training to your workouts. It will definitely help you be less wobbly and sculpt a firmer body - it would be better than cardio but keep it up if that's what you enjoy.

By strength training what do you mean? I know cardio is good for fat burning which is why I do it and it literally requires a pair of trainers (I cannot afford a gym membership and neither can I get there easily) so I need something that can be done at home! I do really enjoy running though so I'll try to do it every other day if I can

Yeah even parents can be like that. :sigh:

I mean exercises that will build your muscles - resistance workouts. You don't have to join a gym - you can do bodyweight strength training. Here is a good list of exercises you can do without much equipment:

Ahh I see! My friend swears by stuff like this, she runs her own exercise class that does this kind of thing at school and might be doing it twice a week which of course I will go to, and I often ask her for the exercises that we did in the class so I can do them at home because I literally can't walk properly for 3 days afterwards! Squats are her fave

I too swear by this - strength training is the shiz.

That sounds like a good idea. Try not to overdo it at first though (I always make this mistake) - build it up slowly.

I like squats a lot too and there are loads of variations you can do: Static squats, pulsing squats, jump squats, bear squats, plie squats, ... the list goes on.

Yeah, I'm pretty strong muscle wise it just doesn't look like it because I can't get rid of the fat covering my stomach and legs! Hoping it's puppy fat like the fat on my face :frown:

But yeah squats are da boom

I know that feeling.

Yeah. Even better when you squat deep and then squeeze your butt at the top.

Also make sure you eat enough protein so you can maintain and repair your muscles effectively. :yep:

Yas I feel like my bum is so strong and then I use my bum muscles for everything so much more like when I go upstairs I work my butt instead of my thighs and I feel really strong  it's the simple things

I will do, I'm normally pretty good with that kind of stuff. Thank you so much you've been so helpful
Just ignore what people tell you. Seriously.
I constantly get that I am too skinny by some people and too overweight by others. If you let it get to you, it will mess your perception of your own body image.

Yeah the little things add up. Like if I have to sit down for extended periods of time I will do bum squeezes.

You're welcome. You might also like this thread: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2176960&page=386

I always try to sit with a straight back to strengthen my back muscles and I tense my abs at the same time :P

Thanks very much

You honestly don't need a gym (I don't even understand the obsession with it), but just a few a equipment such as chairs. I get critised whenever I mention I've managed to get good muscles and six pack without going gym once :frown: So instead, I started working out at home with my girlfriend at the time.

Anyways, all I did is go to any exercise park or normal parks that had pull ups bars and did some calisthenics and stuff (videos below). At home I've done various of push ups, squats and other exercises, but when I've felt it was getting easier I increased the difficulty (e.g. if doing push ups, I got a chair and done elevated push ups, and if it got easier then I wore a heavier a bag; and did more reps and increased speed. When that also got a little bit easier I started doing the planche push ups and hand stand push ups, as well as running before doing circuit training).

if you're only 7.5 stone and still have wobble fat/belly you're probably skinnyfat, you'd be much better off doing strength training/lifting and cardio and a proper diet

I'm not really one for lifting, I do cardio with the running but doing strength training and cardio just takes a lot of time out of my day, I'm in year 13 and I have a ridiculous amount of things to do, how often should I strength train?

Also my diet is awful because my family just don't care what they eat as long as it's easy (it's only been like this since my mum's boyfriend moved in) so I eat things in small amounts, only have some form of pudding/chocolate/sweet one time a day (sometimes not at all) and I don't snack between meals. It's hard to control what I eat when my family insist that we all eat together every day :frown:

There are ones thats more suited for women, but I'd suggest trying out Passion4Profession channel.

In regarding to how much time, that's up to you. Just 10-30mins circuit training for 2/3days can be enough.
7 and a half stone!?
That's 47kg, seriously light.
How tall are you?

It can be dangerous to weigh that little depending on your height. I am 15 and I weigh 80kg - I am not fat.
