The IT technician will have seen worse.
I was speaking to one IT technician for a local PC shop.

Two or three times a year a bloke came in to get his PC wiped.... basically his missus went away and he wanted no trace of his searching history or internet habbits exposed when she got back!!!!

Turned out he was watching some messed up things, though nothing illegal or involving infertility or prostitutes..... but yeah as someone said earlier.... that guy would of seen worse!

The guy paid a guy to delete his internet history, which takes 10 seconds?

Haha that was the first comment.... but even then you can't truly ever delete internet history, just make it harder and harder to find it.

Yeah guess you're both right but still.....

It's actually not that simple but the wife probably wouldn't know how to access it anyway.

That was my thought process. Unless she was very good with computers, she isn't going to find anything if he deleted his history. Seems like a waste of money to me.

Pretty sure magnets delete history pretty effectively.
Yeah! its mostly their job to report pedos - they see it all.

*If* someone tries hard enough, you can burn or even in all effective terms destroy the actual hardware, but it can still be pieced together and still recover large portions of the data.

Concerning degaussing, while in real terms, yes it will scramble the data to make it unreadable and make the hardware unusable, if someone wants the data badly enough they may be able to recover chunks of it.

Don't ever ever use those words. You're just making things long and difficult for yourself by thinking "but still...". Accept what we said and move on. It's not a big deal.

Doesn't apply here, we're both in our twenties lol.

I know but I've read this article about IT people stealing data (sexual content) and then publishing in (and earning money from it obviously) so I'm a bit paranoid.

As someone with connections in the industry, yes he undoubtedly looked at them, it's part of the job to see if files are corrupted lol

Even if it wasn't a virus issue or anything? But simply restoring data?

Very much so. Lost data is more vulnerable, especially if sections of code are missing, it could access memory it is not suppose to touch. He has to look at the files, and videos/pics are easy ones to start with so don't be surprised if he saw them. Why are you so concerned?

Well, I'm embarrassed mostly, since the nudes and vids were of me and my partner (I wouldn't be bothered if it was 'normal' porn) and it's not something I ever wanted anyone to see. Plus I'm kinda worried that he might sell them somewhere or upload etc
Reading that http://www.alphr.com/news/262978/exposed-the-pc-repair-shops-that-rifle-through-your-photos-and-passwords made me kinda upset.

He won't sell them. You don't work your *** off to get to the IT industry just to put yourself in the line of fire of the police. He will look at them, why wouldn't he, but I don't think he will think much since he has seen it many times.
 that's actually really funny
