Can I study Medicine with C at English language gcse

So I'm currently a year 12 student, studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Religious Studies. As you may have guessed I'm interested in studying medicine at university or a similar course. For my GCSEs I achieved A/A*s in all subjects apart from English language ( I got a C). I'm really upset about this because I was always good at English and I want to resist but I can't find anywhere to do this (my sixth form doesn't do resits).
How much will this grade affect my chances at a uni application and is it worth paying £300 to retake? Or do unis look more at AS results?

Any advice would be appreciated
The majority of universities ask for a B and above in English Language. So I would definitely retake if you have your heart set on Medicine!
But do check with the universities that you have your heart set on ...

Good luck with it all!
