Why can't these bars just move the Shisha part outside? I don't know what the rules are exactly, but in Scotland it's still allowed if it's outside but there's a roof over your head, or something.

surely they can't stop people smoking in shisha cafes? the whole point of the business is to smoke shisha! you don't want to inhale the smoke, you don't go in there. pretty ****ing simple really.

Ditto with a smoking pub I'd say, but that doesn't seem to be good enough for most people.

I'm not signing the petition though because i don't like that websit. links IP address with name, political beliefs and address = not good imo.

I think if MI5 et al give a toss, they'll have tracked you down by now.

BTW these petition are part of the goverment serves, notice the web address .gov.uk so it is 110% safe.

You complete knobber.

Let me put it this way: who has ever set up a concentration camp - (1) British private companies or, (2) the British Government.

i agree. though a pub's main aim could be said to be drinking, whereas a shisha cafe exists solely to smoke in. you can't have a shisha cafe without shisha, whereas you can [even if it's undesirable] have a bar without smoke.

You go down to your typical WMC and ask what it's there for. I'll bet most people won't say 'to have a drink'. Many go there to smoke and socialise, get away from the wife etc.

It's sad that some businessess wil close as a result of the ban, but it's for the best.

And no one's tracking you down Thud. Even 30 years ago you wouldn't have been worth surveilling....
They shouldn't be exempt at all. Why should they? Bring on June! Bar work wont be quite so unpleasant anymore.

As far as I know the smoke exhaled isn't harmful to others? So I'm not too sure on what health grounds its being banned, other than it falls into the category of smoking.

I don't think there is any type of smoke that isn't harmful to people by passive inhalation.
Tbh people that smoke normal cigarettes are going to say they do it because of the social grounds rather than them being addicted. I think its good on the government to take a moral high ground and try to lower the smoking amount even though it could lead them to lose a lot of revenue. Whats the point in smoking shisha anyway? Just go and relax in a pub instead.

What is the point in a petition when the vast majority of the British public support the smoking ban?
Reply 29
Well I think in some ways it is fair to allow shisha in places that are specifically there for it. After all, you simply wouldn't go in there if you didn't smoke, where as a pub you might just want a drink. But if they make this exception, who's to say regular pubs won't start selling it and saying "oh, we're exempt, we're a shisha cafe".

Not that I agree with the smoking ban in the first place. But I'm not going to complain about it since it only benefits me as a non-smoker.

Private members clubs are still allowed, so I shisha places will probably just change to members clubs.

Shisha is just smoking for people who are too pretentious to smoke, you're just as likely to get cancer, you get the same effect as cigarettes (my mate once claimed it got you 'high' lol, fools), it's just all a bit sillier. Just buy a pack of menthol fags and smoke them in your front room around a weird ornament or lamp in the middle.

I'd have said the primary aim of both is to be sociable. I've got a shisha pipe and a bottle of vodka in my house, it's cheaper for me to do both of these activities at home...

I was under the illusion the ban applied to private members clubs assuming they had any staff. Obviously a shisha cafe would need some employees. That's the position in Scotland too.

Otherwise students' unions and all other manner of things would be used to get around it.

The ban does indeed apply to private members clubs .

I just signed the petition, I also go Edware Road for the shisha cafes. No one goes in there that doesn't want to smoke shisha so I don't see the problem. In bars and clubs its great that smoking is gonna be banned.
I don't smoke in any form so it doesn't bother me.

And it is unhealthy for smoke of ANY kind to be inhaled into the lungs, be it fresh, exhaled, cigarette, shisha, or any other kind.

you're just gonna disagree with everything i said just for the sake of it, read what I wrote carefully, moron:

"agree. though a pub's main aim could be said to be drinking, whereas a shisha cafe exists solely to smoke in. you can't have a shisha cafe without shisha, whereas you can [even if it's undesirable] have a bar without smoke."
if it involves tobacco then its going to be included in the smoking ban..aftern all you do smoke it. and as someone else said, if i can't have a cigerette then i'll be damned if others can smoke :p:

The whole point of the smoking ban is to stop bar staffs are non smokers from becoming second hand smokers (since the amount of people quitting has fallen). The whole point of a Shisha bar is to smoke it. It's not open for Acohol or for general shopping. If your in a shisha bar it's 99% likely you are there to smoke it. Everyone who goes in there know the risks of smoking.
