UMS A level Chemistry

Hey everyone. Odd question but I'm doing the AQA Chemistry A level course and am sitting the practicals externally. I feel like I'm in the right direction to achieve very well in the written exams but due to the fact that the practicals are external and there being a degree of uncertainty about it, I was wondering how many UMS points the exams alone account for and how much the practicals do? I'm obviously thinking rationally and don't think I'll do bad by any means but suppose I got full marks on the written and 0 in the practicals (both AS & A2) how many UMS marks in total would that be (and what grade)?

AQA Chemistry

CHEM1 - 100UMS
CHEM2 - 140UMS
CHM3 - 60UMS
CHEM4 - 120UMS
CHEM5 -120UMS
CHM6 - 60UMS

So each of the practicals exams is worth 10% of the A level. If you got full makes in the exams and zero on the practicals you would get 480 UMS and scrape an A.

Hey, I really appreciate your answer. Are you sure this is for AQA Chem? I apologise if I've made a mistake but I've been looking at the boundary pdf that AQA published for 2015 and the UMS are slightly different http://filestore.aqa.org.uk/over/stat_pdf/AQA-A-LEVEL-GDE-BDY-JUNE-2015.PDF

Thank you.

Oh, I just realised. Maximum Scaled Mark is different to UMS?

You are looking at the raw mark boundaries, not the UMS. I've given you the UMS from memory but I am certain that the practical units are 60UMS each (this is true for all Sciences and all domestic boards) I just might be wrong about the other units, (but as I said, I'm pretty confident).

Yes, it's the conversion from scaled to UMS marks they allows them to keep the same UMS grade boundaries for every subject and every exam season.

You can check the contribution made by each unit here: http://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/science/as-and-a-level/chemistry-2420/spec-at-a-glance (but I was right).

I see. That makes sense. Thank you again.
