Ah, so you're a sensation seeker. I understand. The one thing I fear is living a monotonous life. Day in, day out, filled with duties and obligations. No happiness or fulfillment. Eurgh.

A career isn't necessarily rigid and set in stone. I don't see myself getting bored if I secure a role I'm happy with and I have the chance to progress (eg specialising etc). I may as well put my heart and soul in to a career; what else is there to fight for?

By the age of 30, this WILL be your life. It's everyone's life, you are just fortunate enough to still have a delusional notion otherwise referred to as 'hope' to cling to. Don't worry, like the billions before you, that will be beaten out of you within the space of about 6 months in the workforce, when you come to realise you're just another speck of dust in a world full of...dust.

Prepare yourself for it otherwise reality will hit you like a brick to the face.

Either that or, like me, go self-employed. That brings its own set of realities, all of which are equally unappealing. F**k, I wish those five or so years younger than me could see inside my head for a mere 24 hours - they'd crawl into the nearest corner and bawl their eyes out.

The fantastical expectations one holds for their life before they hit the workplace, self-employment or the reality of an existence where there's only you and you alone never fails to amaze me.

This thread is delusion on steroids.

So you would say you're someone who prefers change over order? Do you view living the same life day after day as somewhat stagnant?

Yes. Just don't feel like I'm doing anything. I sometimes like to make things harder then usual to do, just so it makes it more interesting.

You can't change what fate has in store for you.

I thought I was pessimistic..

None of what I've said is delusional - I'm considering my future. Don't come and insult me with your bitterness.
I've never anticipated life in the work force to be flowery and perfect. But you're not in a position to tell me that I can't find something in life that will be fulfilling for me.
I know that society expects you to pay your way, and that involves a degree of routine and potential monotony. Work is important, but it doesn't mean one cannot create a balanced life. That's in the position of the individual to organise.
To be extremely intelligent.

What exactly have you got in mind? I can't clarify my reason for it but I've just always wanted freedom. What most people want has just never appealed.

What you said, about what most people want not appealing to you, is mostly it. I just want to live on my own terms with people like myself. I don't really understand the ambitions and views of most people in society. Things like having a great career or settling down and starting a family don't really seem that important to me. I guess I just don't want to bug anyone and I don't want to be bugged myself.

I don't know, but I believe there's more and I know career wouldn't do it for me. The only thing I enjoy about pursuing a career is trying to get into a difficult one were the competition is fierce. After you secure the role and start getting used to the job. It's just boring. Everything gets boring once you become used to it. Being challenged has always been the most fun.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

Money has never really appealed. The ambition of society has always baffled me as well. What I concluded was most people just follow what has previously been set without of really questioning it. For example, I have a friend who wants kids but when I ask him why he can never give a good reason. He talks of legacy, but I never get that. The majority of people won't go on to do anything special. Even when they do it will eventually be forgotten. I would rather be doing something adventurous for the rest of my life and know that I can die knowing I made the most of it.

The sad thing about that bugging thing is the fact that most people tend to have a problem with others who have a different belief. Even if it doesn't effect them in anyway they feel a need to correct it. I have never understood this and I don't think I will.
For my car to be fixed. That is all I want right now.

What is the ultimate dream/fantasy you wish you could have? Your ultimate wish, no matter how unlikely or impossible it seems to be?

1. My own home / place of living (an apartment or a house).

2. To have a lot of money immediately (to be rich).

I'd buy Manchester United and run it into the ground.

For all suffering in the world to be eliminated, for humans, nonhuman animals and for all sentient beings.

The technological singularity is the one thing I desire to see in my lifetime more than anything else I could ever dream of.

to run a guinea pig sanctuary for all abused/rescue guiena pigs. I would have a house devoted to it with holes drilled in the walls so they could run between rooms. i would have the attic upstairs filled with piggy merchandise and there would be cast iron statues of my first ever guinea pigs outside the front door :h:

We have very similar minds.
