Can you please explain to me how the old OCR Chemistry/Physics Specifications work?

Hello.
I will be taking the old OCR Chemistry + Physics courses this Summer (2016). I want to know what I need to know, since I've only started studying now - I'm especially unsure of how the practical assessment will go down.
Are there any real alternatives to OCR, perhaps ones that don't need practical investigations?

the new OCR specification do not do practicals that go towards your final grade
