I Have Just Been Back To Prague, The Czech Republic

September 1992 - November 1996,
January - February 1997,
March - April 1998,
May 2007,
1 - 6 October 2015 ...

I am happy to share my experiences or impressions with anyone - whatever it is that interests you.

I stayed in Prague (the capital) and in Marianske Lazne / Marienbad, a city.
And I visited the city of Cheb and have been on the territory of Germany too (the town of Marktredwitz).
I came back to London late last night.

Many years ago, happy memories ...

Is the overall quality of life better than London?
Nice. But have you seen Sandy Row of the 12th day of July?

Good question.
Umm.. I am not quite sure I can accurately answer that to be honest.
As I am not living there, and it has been a long time, and even then I was a child and quite young.
Well.. It could be better but I doubt.
I would say the prices are not particularly low, so the cost of living is probably not either. And I think salaries are probably higher in London.
However, I would imagine that the Czech Republic is still enjoying, to an extent maybe, the benefits of its socialist past. I mean for example, the housing and its provision or relatively low prices of it in case it was not for free totally (but it could be free, I would imagine). The Soviet Union was helping quite a bit, as far as I understand.
So I would not really know. It depends I guess.
The food is really good there. Meat products, milk / dairy products - quite a colourful variety. Could be a little bit of an advantage over London in this sense - just a thought.
Thanks for asking anyway. You are the first one.

Anyone else has any questions or is curious to know more about my trip ?
Ooo lovely. I went to Prague around Christmas time last year and it was absolutely gorgeous, I totally fell in love with the place! It took until we got on the plane to go home to snow though :cry2:

Did you check out the beer museum? It's fab and there's free beer at the end!
This Prague place sounds like its in need of some CULTURAL ENRICHMENT
Is it true there are many many street prostitutes lurking around?-

Thank you !
I am pleased to hear you enjoyed Prague so much ! Yes, Christmas time is good there, great time. Prague is indeed a gorgeous place in general though. I keep thinking that I did not really realize that and never quite fully appreciated its beauty during the period when I lived there as a child and an early teenager.. but it was probably precisely because I was too young for those things then. Sorry about the snow - but during my times there in the 1990's, I did have snow on occasions (though probably not too often).
The Beer museum? Oh no, I do not think I did. Sounds interesting though. Thanks for drawing my attention to that one, appreciated ! And free beer, nice ! That is really generous of them, I must say. I should probably visit it if and when I go there again in future.
But I did have beer when I was there a few days ago - and on like several occasions. This country is great at making beer, that is a fact. They surely must have the perfect recipes for this one, no doubt !
I hope you will have an opportunity of going to Prague again yourself.. since you became so fond of it.

Oh really ? That is cool ! I hope you will be able to go soon, good luck.
OK, one most unique thing about it.
I would say it is its well preserved medieval history and elements. That is what makes it unique. The magnificent old castles, bridges, the medieval streets ... You should definitely visit the Old Town Square and examine all of it. You will see why, for yourself. And the Karl / Charles bridge.
The "Stare Mesto" / the old town (Prague 1 ?) is great in general.
And of course - the Prague zoo. Really, really worth it ... I keep remembering over and over again how I used to cycle there on my bike in the 1990's - like on dozens, hundreds of occasions, during the weekends I think. And then having lunch right there... Please be prepared you may need the whole day just to see all there is to find in the Zoo.
And then.. another unique feature is how the historical elements sort of co exist within one and the same city with the modern features of the present day, such as the super, smart modern looking trams running along the streets. It is a brilliant contrast if you like.

Wow .. - that is surprising and unexpected ...
Not long after I made this thread, the Google front page is today displaying a picture with the announcement - the 605 th anniversary of the Prague astronomical clock.
A bit of a coincidence ...

Any other people want to know more about my visit to Prague or to the Czech Republic in general or my visit to Germany ?
I am available to answer your questions - while it is all still fresh ...
Plus .. after all I am someone who actually lived in Prague in the past - over a 4 year period.
I felt that Prague was a beautiful place. I went there about 10 years ago.

I can take that. We drove into CZ...I tell you, the moment we crossed the border there were girls standing with signs blowing kisses on the side of the road...

You can then well imagine the situation in the dimly lit streets of Prague.

Despite this, its a beautiful city.
