I am thinking about taking a gap year after being rejected by medicine this year. I have been looking for jobs at my local hospital and was wondering what types of jobs do unis prefer. I found a job advertised for Sterile Services Technician and was wondering of that would be suitable. More details about the job can be found on http://www.jobs.nhs.uk/cgi-bin/vacdetails.cgi?search_db_no=2&selection=911755937&vn=22
Tbh, I don't think uni's are that bothered about what job you do on a gap year. Maybe a job in a customer service role would be better, as it would allow you to develop interpersonal skills etc...
I did a job similar to the one you're looking at over my gap year. It was actually preparing sterile equipment and media for a microbiology lab. The job was quite interesting and I mentioned it on my UCAS form, tho no one asked me much about it at interviews.
