Woolton Hall is cheaper than Owens Park these days though!

I'm in tower, and there are more Rahs in OP than Woolton, I almost swapped early on in the year (although admittedly, that was more to do with the fire alarms) but despite the fact there are a fair few second and third years in Woolton (because it IS nice) there's nothing much to notice about anyone living there.

it certainly stands out as one of the nicers halls in the handbook.+ its in fallowfield so near the greatest number of ppl therefore the greatest number of parties

does anyone know what the mealtimes are here?

Just out of interest...what is a rah?

Right, now I know what a rah is but I have another question about Woolton-
I googled it and found this link to their message board: http://www.wooltonhall.co.uk/msgboard/

It worries me slightly because basically all the threads are links to some porn video or another - is it spam, or are people at Woolton just perverted? As well as rahs? I was really hoping to apply there but now I'm a little scared...

Is the 'l' in 'Woolton' a silent one or do you pronounce it?

it's spam. or at least I really hope so
I've only met one pervy bloke from there anyway...although I see why the prospect of a load of pervert rahs would put off a fair few people!

and it's not a silent l.
most people pronouncing it seem to go for something like 'wall-ton'

I am staying at woolton. In response to the first post the dinner times are 5.30 to 6.30.

In response to lm318 we are not perves! The woolton forum has been spammed for ages!

Sarah - people pronounce it w-oo-lton not wall-ton!

Best hall in manchester uni.

I am a second year student going into my third year in September. I'll be staying in Woolton for my third year come September. I'm staying there because I personally think it (and perhaps Allan Hall) are the nicest Halls in Manchester.

If you want frequent large and loud parties you'd be better going to Owens Park. If you want somewhere where you can actually live (still with parties, but less screaming, sweat and drunken fights), go to Woolton. lol you can go to the OP parties if you like anyhow, they just cant get into ours! (coded door). Woolton is always oversubscribed... OP is always undersubscribed... That's why you pay more there for less facilities. If you are looking for a larger catered hall, Hulme is a better bet than OP.

Ps the pool table at Woolton is not shoddy!
I'm staying in Woolton Hall next year! Oh and I'm a 2nd year, lived in OP last year. I hope it's gonna be a bit nicer

The woolton student website is now online - http://www.wooltonhall.co.uk/index.php

There are photos, tips for September and also a forum where you can find out more about who you'll be living with in a couple of weeks time!
I was there in the 79-82 period. What a time! Ever seen Animal House? It was modelled on Woolton. All blokes. Fantastically sexist. Hadnt lost a game of rugby for 5 years. None of the pc crap of today. And could we party. Sorry to see it so low today.
How far off is the nearest bus-stop en route to the uni from Woolton Hall?

You're in the Fallowfield campus, so about 30 seconds away untill you get into OP, and then 2 minutes from OP to Woolton.
I saw somewhere that Woolton didn't really have a communal area (besides the dining hall) so everyone had to congregate in bedrooms. Is this true? And if so did it matter?
