Why do people go clubbing ?

Poll

Do you go clubbing ?

I've never understood the purpose of this phenomenon. People attend sessions called 'pre-drinks' where they consume some amount of alcohol whilst playing drinking games. By the time they get to the club they're under the influence of alcohol and so do not entirely act on their own accord, nor do they remember many of the events that night

Upon arrival, more alcoholic beverages are purchased and attendees simply dance aimlessly for the whole night possibly hooking up with strangers and having intercourse that night without having any emotional attraction for eachother, some are even 'friends' before this, and remain as such post events. This is considered normal among a lot of young adults.

What is the point of intoxicating yourself to such levels, that leave you incapable of making decisions correctly, and amnesic. It's an expensive feat that bares no benefit whatsoever, it isn't like you can recall the night and say "that was a good night".

Now for those who might ask how I know this, I have lived on campus for 2 and a half years now, and have house mates who tell me what happens.

What happened to the days where going out involved going to places of interest, playing football with mates, going out for a meal, going to theme parks, sleep overs, watching movies, going ice skating, etc . This is not to say these don't happen anymore, they do of course, but no where near as much as "clubbing".

I asked my house mates why they go clubbing, they said they do it to fit in... sounds pretty pathetic in my opinion.

What are your thoughts on this ?

People prefer getting drunk because its a good "feeling"
No one likes feeling disconnected, whether it among their friends or the wider society in general. That's probably just the kind of person they want to be if they think they are going to be happy that way and part of a community.
I dont get it either. I would never waste money on it. Like you actually have to pay an entrance fee lmao. I just go to gigs.

Girls rarely have to pay though, and even then like half what a guy would pay, so I'd consider yourself lucky.

k didnt know the entrance prices were based on gender, as i said i dont go clubbing
dancing up and down crap music is SO fun when you're pised. And occasionally i get with a girl too.
I've only been a few times. I only really go because I love the atmosphere in some places, and it's a laugh (especially dancing lol) when you're with friends providing everyone's sensible.
because sex is enjoyable.
I actually like the dancing part haha, the trick is to go into the club early enough so you don't have to pay to get in (where I used to live it was free entry before 11:30pm). I find alcohol lets me loosen up a bit so I can enjoy it more - I never drink enough to get wasted or not remember what I was doing the next morning, and personally don't see the attraction of it (but fair play to the people who do, we all have our preferences). Plus it is a good way to socialise with your friends if you're all into that kind of thing.

Only thing is when you have to wake up early the next morning after going to bed at like 3am >_<
this is dumb, it's called having fun

Drinking alcohol is fun. In moderation of course, only immature teenagers drink so much they can't remember anything. Getting drunk with good friends while listening to music is great. People still do all those other activities you described as well, i don't know anyone who spends all of their free time in clubs. And if we want to have sex with a stranger every once and a while, so what? It's all a bit of fun and part of being young.

Different strokes for different folks, it sounds like you're just judging people for doing something you don't enjoy.

Never come across places that charge based on gender, unless they're talking about guys paying for girls or something :/
Then again I've only been clubbing 3 times and it was at the same place each time so I'm no expert either.
Cos I like music and I like dancing. And being drunk just makes that more fun.

Disclaimer, since this topic has been done many times before: In London, there are lots of decent clubs that play genuinely good music, or have proper DJs and artists performing.
Because they don't have any internet connection at home.
Because they don't like Seals?
To catch an STI.
