Hi!
Ive applied for a BEng in Civil and Coastal engineering with a view of studying for an MSc in Marine Renewable Energy; i just wanted to ask how much of a coastal aspect is added to the degree as appose to straight civil's and also, is there a possibility in getting involved in marine renewables whilst doing my undergrad?

Finally, what kind of work does the engineers without borders society do at plymouth?

Congratulations on confirming your place on the BSc Psychology course! :clap2:

I've had a little look on the UPSU website, and here is a full list of societies.

You can find out a bit more from some of our bloggers about their experiences with societies.

I would recommend the 'PsySoc' society and the 'Knit Fast, Die Warm' society
is really popular on Facebook!

Hi Sam,

I've directed your queries onto the Science and Engineering faculty and here is the response from the Admissions Tutor for Civil Engineering and here is her response:

"Hi Sam,

Thanks for your query. I’m the admissions tutor and it’s great to hear you’ve applied for the BEng Civil and Coastal course. The coastal aspects are introduced to all students in Year 2, when everyone (i.e. those on straight civil and those on civil and coastal) takes a 20 credit module in hydraulic and coastal engineering (it’s 20 out of 120 credits). Then, if you choose to continue with the civil and coastal programme, you would take 80 credits of coastal-related modules in your final year of BEng (again out of 120 credits).

The coastal modules are Coastal Engineering Analysis and Design (20 credits), Coastal Engineering Design Project (20 credits) and your Individual Project (dissertation), which would be in your chosen coastal topic (40 credits). Your project gives you the opportunity to pursue your interests, so if marine renewables is your thing, you could choose to undertake your project on an area such as wave energy.

There is an active EWB group at Plymouth and you’ll be able to look them up on social media. They sometimes get involved in running outreach activities with local schools. In addition, you will take a Team Engineering module in the first year of your course and all the students are working on this year’s EWB Challenge, to provide design solutions to an urbanising community in Cameroon. Hi dhr90,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. There will be an academic lead from the course present at the Postgraduate Open Evening 9 March 2016, and also members of the PG Admissions team to talk through any specifics like qualifications, concerns about the strength of your application, etc.

With regard to deadlines for applying, there isn't a specific date, but PG Admissions have advised that you submit your application by June to allow for enough time for your application to be processed and for the Admissions Tutor to consider your application.

That said, applications submitted after June will also be considered as well, its up to you really.

Accepted my offer for FdSc Navigation & Maritime Science today :h:
Hi there, I've sent off my application to Plymouuth Uni last year.I've still bot had a reply from them thus in tegards to wether I've been successful. Is there any reason why Plymouth is falling behind ?? My application is for deffered entey so I gave as much time as I saw fit , but this is just ridiculous. Is anyone else experiencing this or can help ?

Hiya, try putting posters up in student frequent bars and maybe the library. Something might come up.

Hey, just accepted a spot in the msc in occupational therapy program at Plymouth University. Was wondering if anyone had any idea how much emphasis is placed on human anatomy in this program?

I've put Plymouth as my first choice for Primary Education with a maths specialism :biggrin:

I'm from Sheffield and have applied to do Geography here.

Who else is doing Geography and is anyone else from up North like me? :biggrin:
Just wanted to ask what the town is like as I haven't really had the chance to look around much. What's the nightlife like for students, what's accommodation like, facilities at the uni, how modern is it etc...

The town is really nice, everything is really close so you don't have to go far to get from place to place. Accommodation is also nice, although I didn't see all the campuses. As for how modern it is... it depends what part of the campus you are in 😊
