Student, I've run out of money until late December and I can't find a job.

If the shortfall was completely out of your control and you can prove it with bank statements and possibly doctors notes/council letters/employer letters then the uni will help you. I had to apply to the hardship fund last year and explained what happened and what my financial commitments were. They calculated what I should be spending based on where I live and my dependants and they gave me enough to cover the unexpected outgoings and enough to see me through to my next pay day. It was very embarrassing and felt like begging but it really helped.

The alternative to the grant is a short term loan from the uni. You pay it back, it's interest free and the eligibility criteria aren't quite as strict. They vary a lot from uni to uni though so email the student support service for advice.
