umm dont know how much help this is but...
maybe because there are alot of people centred around the street that the resturants would make a better profit where large amounts of people are located

Footfall is extremely important in deciding the location of service industries, in addition you need to take into consideration the benefits of clustering like the increased reputation of the area as being a good place to go for restaurants, further driving footfall up. There are also benefits in terms of shared labour pools, expertise and supplies.

high st - has a higher sphere of infulence thus firms selling higher order goods (restaurants) will be attracted to location as they need higher turnover!
