Okay so yesterday I did my last dose response by myself independently- well being supervised from a distance. 3/4 columns worked which means I need to repeat next week.

Plan for next week: repeat the last dose response then generate the dose response curve from the data generated: calculate the EC50 value, find and compare against literature value. Write up the dose response methodology and results.
I'm also starting the calcium measurements with prostaglandin E2- not sure what that entail yet but time will tell :yep:

Hey guys! Really need more participants to complete my study on Gratitude, Personality, and Self-acceptance and my deadline is just around the corner. :cry2::cry2: It involves questionnaires and 7-day online diary of listing 5 things. Please help me out! Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone

This is completely new to me but I think having this forum here is really helpful! It just reminds me that others are in the same boat and that there are so many interesting topics out there to think about!
I am a third year English Language and Linguistics student and I am writing my dissertation on gender representation in children's television programmes. Basically I'm comparing programmes from 2004 - 2005 to ones that aired between 2012 - 2015 and looking into how verbs are used to convey the actions of males and females as passive or active etc . I've got my Research Proposal done and have had feedback from my tutor (my grade was a mid 2:1).
The problem is I am really struggling with actually getting started with the actual dissertation. I find the whole thought of writing it somewhat terrifying and overwhelming and find myself questioning what I am doing ALL THE TIME! For example, am I reading the right research? Is my methodology good enough? Can I get the writing and data collection done in time for the deadline in May?

Any tips on how people have got through the initial panic of writing the dissertation would be great. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance from those who have been there already or are going through it?
Hi guys,

I am researching the relationship between personality, attachment styles, moral judgement and emotional intelligence and would really be grateful if you could complete my survey:

https://bedshealthsciences.eu.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_eQLpwcbMiotK4yV

It won't take long and I would really appreciate you completing it. If you need any participants for yours, I would gladly fill it out.

Thanks

research project stage 2/4:

dose response with ATP conc 0.001-100 + PGE2= success

however due to the number of cells required it means I most likely won't have enough cells for tomorrow.

2-3 more repeats to go (assuming they work)

When I was doing my dissertation, the dissertation chat thread was really helpful to me- it was helpful in second year when I was picking a topic and a supervisor, and helpful in third year, when I was actually writing the damn thing.

Researching and writing your dissertation can be a real slog, so chatting to others in the same boat really helped me.

I haven't seen a dissertation chat thread yet this year, so I though I'd start the thread up.

If you're writing a dissertation this year (undergrad or masters) why not post and say hello and tell everyone what your dissertation is/is going to be on? If you're having any problems, please feel free to ask for help as well.

Post your survey & research requests here :h:

I just graduated from MSc and I did my dissertation in 96 hours.

If anyone needs help for qualitative research in social science, feel free to ask me here and I can guide you (e.g... epistemology, sampling methods, coding, etc etc)

Best tip I can advise for quantitative/qualitative research in social science (and other subjects) is...
1. You have to rationalize everything (e.g. your methodology, your topic, your questions, your potential bias, etc).. like.. Why did you choose to have a sample size of a particular number? Why is the sampling technique chosen? what is the rationale of your hypothesis and research question and how do they relate to your argument and topic?!?! Two common ways of rationalizing is to use journal research to backup your point, or use previous research / studies that corroborates with your methodology.
2. The epistemology / methodology has to make sense... e.g. hypothesis are tested using quantitative statistics... to keep things simple, don't use hypothesis with qualitative research. If the epistemology and research doesn't make sense, then your whole research is gonna be flawed from the start to end.

Good luck

Do you have a choice of supervisors offering projects, or a fairly open choice? Which subject are you studying?

In general, I would say follow your interests. If there are supervisors offering projects, do look closely at these because often you will get better support than if you do something you've come up with yourself. They're also usually well designed projects, which helps get good data.

Think about the modules and assignments you've done so far- or where your interests currently lie. Are there any areas you'd like to spend a lot of time looking into?

I'm final year biological sciences
advice, I basically skipped the whole off frost term with the exception of a few lectures and tutorials but the amount of classes I attended was minor, the second term has just begun and I am now attending regularly, even while I was absent from school I was completed online assignments and did my presentation, however I did not attend classes at all and am likely to fail 3/4 of my modules, I haven't heard anything from the school about my attendance, do I have cause to worry or should I just forget about it and start attending classes
Hey guys, im studying forensic science and have to think of a topic/present my proposal in 2 weeks.
I can't decide between forensic entomology or forensic palynology... i think they are both interesting but can't narrow either topic down enough to pick a title/specialist area??
I've read through so many articles and papers and i just don't know i have like 10 pages worth of notes overall!

Any ideas/help?? :frown:

Also need to think of what would be more practical to research with labs etc.

AAAAAAAAAAH :dontknow::dontknow:
hey, I'm a third year sociology student and my dissertation proposal is due in at the end of march, and i was looking for some advice/input on what i was looking to put forward.i'm interested in the whole dynamic and growing popularity of the gym and fitness, these days. and theres obviously been a lot of work done on the gendered stereotypes within the gym. i.e. women discouraged through socialisation to take part in weight training etc - and women are more likely to take part in classes as opposed to actually training in the gym blablablabut i was looking to find a research topic that related to this but was different. and I'm having trouble! could anyone help :frown: ?

So I have a 2 hour project progress meeting tomorrow with my supervisor where each of his project students (there's 4 of us in total) have to do a 10 minute presentation giving a brief background to our project and explaining the results we've obtained so far.

As of yet I'm up to date and on track with the results I have but I have no idea how to go about writing this presentation, and I get really shy giving them; although I guess it's practise for the assessed presentation associated with the final dissertation in April

Hi guys, how are you keeping your dissertation journals? Are you noting stuff down in a notepad or on a word document? At present, I have typed mine up. Are there any effective ways I can keep a record of my notes? Any word templates that look good? Just concerned as the journal counts towards the overall module marks.
I just had a stressful day with my dissertation poster, which was displayed and marked today. Things went really well and I got 75% so well chuffed, highest mark I have achieved at university so far.
