Changing degree from Economics to HIstory?

I'm currently in my first year of an economics degree and not enjoying it. I'm considering swapping to history however I'm unsure the best way of doing so, or if this is even the right choice. I'm taking an open unit in history next term which will hopefully give me an idea of which degree would be the right choice and if I would in fact be better of sticking with economics. However come next term the deadline for Ucas would have passed and it would be too late to drop out and reapply.

Does anyone have any experience with changing courses at the end of first year - would I have to re-enter history from year one or join in year 2 (having done a module in this year and having receive almost full marks at A-Level)? Or would I be better off dropping out of econ now and reapplying through Ucas?

Thanks
