Conservative groups used to fight against birth control (some still do). Just look at the catholic church. The development of the pill was politically motivated beyond just wanting to make money for the sake of it. If people change in a way which means they don;t want to buy bigoted racist crap then the people who sell bigoted racists crap stop making it. Stuff like feminism or other progressive currents can change what consumers want to consume, thus altering what the capitalist want to make. Or at the very least opening new consumer markets for the progressives.

Also we do not and have never lived in a pure capitalist economy. Not everything that is produced to made comes from the pure market or relies on consumers.

That is absolutely ludicrous. The idea that men are going to be dissuaded from buying a lads mag out of fear of judgement from a complete stranger...you clearly don't know many men. Most of them would probably want to buy it even more.

As people have said it not because of any cultural change its just the fact that such magazines have always been soft porn filled with fluff to make them saleable. I don't think its a coincidence the slightly more upmarket magazines such as GQ are still going, while the likes of Nuts were the first to fall. The internet means people aren't interested in paying money to see some girls boobs with a centre fold down the middle, when you can watch some girl in HD doing far more than that for free. After that what does a magazine like Nuts have to fall back on? Its stunning coverage of football, or review of a car we've all already seen on top gear? It doesn't have a decent political or fashion section that the likes of GQ do. The overwhelming reason for the decline of Lads Mags is their main selling point has been utterly upstaged and undercut by online porn.

I don't see why some feminist circles hail this as a victory, as the casual consumption of soft porn has declined the social acceptability of the mass consumption of hardcore porn has increased massively. As far as female objectification goes it takes some logical gymnastics to see the replacement of Page3 with Pornhub as an improvement, at least Page3 ensured their boobs were real and pretended to present an opinion ffs.
