GCSE Science (level 2) BTEC Applied Science Level 3

I am applying for uni and the course i am applying for states that i need to have a GCSE in science. I had a D at GCSE but did a level 3 BTEC in applied science for a year and passed. I was wondering, does a level 3 science qualification beat out a level 2 in a university application?
