i've done the formula n everything, but what do the numbers actually show?

Ohhh. :smile:

It shows how spread out the data is.

Therefore, the higher the Standard Deviation value, the more spread out the data is.
The lower the Standard Deviation value, the less spread out the data is.

Yeah, it's how far on average each value deviates from the mean. If you think about it, if each of the values were close to the mean (i.e. the standard deviation was quite small) then the data wouldn't be very spread out, but if they were generally very different from the mean (i.e. larger standard deviation) then the data would be more spread out. Basically what bexiness said :p:
