Can we classify benzene as a functional group?

So if we were to say:

"Write the functional groups of Aspirin".

It would be:

ester
carboxylic acid
benzene

right?

I am mostly certain that it is, yet never explicitly stated in any course books.

It is certainly considered an important feature of a molecule and at times described as a functional group ...

Thank you.

Well that would depend on the number of marks, if its 2 marks give the obvious functional groups ester & carboxylic acid too be on the safe side but if its 3 marks add bezene too .
