Insurance problems

Hey, so my target grades are A*AA, and I applied to KCL (Firm offer of AAB) and I'm stuck with picking an insurance.
There are two choices for me essentially:
1) Sussex, which offers History which I'm happier to do, but is ABB (still high).
2) Bournemouth, in which I have an unconditional offer but for English which I want to do less than History.

I pretty much have to go to uni this year (and really want to), and wanna know what would be better.

Sussex. 100%. If it so happens that you do miss your firm offer by one grade then it'd be better to study the course that you want to do.

What about if I don't get one A either way? Then I'm left to Clearing

KCL are quite lenient, and Bournemouth are in clearing nearly every year...

...where you can find a History course IF the worst happens. This is just my view but I'd rather go through clearing and study a course I love than study a course I like but don't have a passion for for 3 years. I'm kinda in the same position - I have an ABB firm and a BBB insurance.

What did you get at AS?

What would you consider lenient? They want two As, I think I can at least get one.
And wow, didn't know Bournemouth was. I just picked it for the nice area, good campus and the MLit course I didn't see anywhere else

I like English, I just prefer Language which I didn't even consider since I did Lit at AS. Bournemouth offers specialism in either, though. And yeah, I see your point about studying something for 3 years.

I got AABB. I'm just an incredibly unconfident person haha
I'd go for Sussex. Unless you particularly like Bournemouth, you're likely to find somewhere of that quality or better in clearing for history even if the worst happens and you miss your grades.

Those are brilliant grades, well done! Don't worry, I'm the same :frown: I only got ABC at AS (an improvement from the EEUU I got the year before though) and somehow need to increase by 5UMS this year to get it. I have no idea how because Psychology especially is soooo much harder this year.

Can you not get the extra 5 UMS from Film or Sociology? ^^
But thank you

Sociology was my A so that's unlikely. Film was a C and I'm retaking that exam so quite likely yes. It's keeping my B in Psych that's worrying me!

No problem, thanks for the rep!

They may let you in without an A. If you don't want to go through clearing, then reapply next year.

It sounds as though you'd rather go to Sussex to me.

You're welcome! And yeah, possibly so, but for Psychology it's a matter of remembering names and concepts but also analysis first and foremost, much like Sociology

I don't have a preference of uni, only of the course. Well, even then I wouldn't hate English.
But aye, possibly.

I do really like Bournemouth, though it's mainly their unconditonal Integrated Masters thing that's drawing me to it.

That's probably not as big a deal as it once was - if you get a good degree you'll be able to do a Masters anyway, and the financial advantage won't be such a concern because postgraduate loans are being introduced regardless.

Ah, really? I'll have to google that. Do you know if it includes doctoral research out of interest?

There aren't many details yet - I expect it will but I can't say for certain.

They let a lot in this year who missed their grades by one or two grades, ie. ABB/ABC/AAC/A*BC They'll probably let you in  But it might also depend on the circumstances because I know they look at UMS to see how close you were to the next grade because marking has been harsher recently.
