Agreed. Is anyone interested in the scheme (or going to the US in the foreseeable future)?

The deadline is around April but we recommend getting your application in ASAP for the greatest chance of placement, and so you can head to one of our Recruitment Fairs in January! - Sophie

Hi, Im going through my application with camp America and have been waiting for a reply from an interviewer to set up a date for over a week now :/ In the meantime I was thinking of going to the Manchester Recruitment Fair and I was wondering if you could possibly give me some advice. Before I go to the fair do I already have had to had an interview by yourself and passed it. (In that case, The fair is on the 21st of Jan.. I don't think that gives me enough time to set one up... Especially as my interviewer isn't replying). Do I have to have paid my £69 Application Fee by this point and have registered with Online Disclosers. Also what sort of stuff goes on at the fair, what do I need to bring etc.. I really don't know what goes on there :/Sorry if I'm waffling I'm just trying to gage my best options for being placed, (and most specifically in an arts role which I know are competitive and I'm worried I'm running out of time).
Hiya! I'm really wanting to apply for Camp America this year, but I'm worried I won't get selected as a) I don't really have a specialist subject (although I have danced for 15 years and have played several sports at which I have a keen interest) and b) I don't have any "formal" work experience with children as such - just babysitting and other informal experiences :dontknow:

I know I have also left it rather late in the game to apply so am unsure of my next move - so any advice would be great! Thanks!!

been wanting to do camp america for 2 years now and im finally old enough to do it this year...but im hopefully going away to uni in September so im not sure if i should leave it for another year and spend this summer at home with friends and working to save for uni or just go for it?
I got accepted onto a camp early last week. I will be an 'adventure counsellor' with experience in sailing, fitness and survival skills. Can't wait for it!

Just be yourself, I was really nervous for mine and I ended up being in there for an extra half an hour because I got along with the interviewer so well! I got a place a little over 2 weeks later. It really is nothing to worry about!

Just go for it! I've been sailing for about 15 years too but have never instructed or anything, I just know what I'm doing. You'll never know if you don't try?

Go for it this year!! It'll give you lots of skills you can take with you to University such as independence and confidence! Plus you'll get to go travel and make friends for a lifetime! If you have any other questions just let us know! - Sophie

You have amazing dance experience, and babysitting and informal childcare still counts - just make sure you include it all on your application and go into lots of detail!

You haven't left it late at all - you have until April to apply, and you can also head to one of our recruitment fairs in January! I'd say go for it, you won't regret it!! - Sophie

I've done camp twice and am going back this summer for a third (actually leaving my job to go back this summer, but there is no way I could say no to going back after being asked - the real world can wait haha) and it is truly the most amazing thing you'll ever do/

The fairs are crazy busy - my first year I got placed in Edinburgh, then I decided to try a different camp so went to the Manchester fair last year as there was a camp there that I wanted to talk to, and got placed at it! It can be quite overwhelming so it's a good idea to go in with a clear idea of camps you want to talk to, what skills you have and how you're going to illustrate the skills you have. I spoke to a few camps who gave me scenario type questions (what would you do if a camper was homesick, what would you do to entertain a group of campers if it was raining etc) so it might be good to have some ideas prepared in case you get asked something like that. It might have changed, but my friend got placed at a fair last year before she'd even set up her application at all. Most importantly just be super enthusiastic and smiley, you could have all the experience in the world but if you seem like you're not going to enjoy yourself at camp and be a great role model to the kids, you won't get as far. Also be prepared for lots of queuing, and get there early!

I absolutely adore camp, it's the best thing I've ever done and I'm ridiculously excited to go back.

Thank you so much for your response really helpful 😊 I'm going to the Manchester fair and have picked some camps I want to talk to 😊 just not sure what order I want to go to them in.. If you get offered a place do they just offer it to you there and then and do you have to accept or can you wait to make a decision?
