Am I allowed to do a giveaway or something on here? I have 2 anime DVD boxsets I can't be bothered to sell on ebay. Rather give them to someone who has more passion for anime than me.
I found the collaboration between Porter Robinson and A1 Pictures very cool, especially because I quite like his music and the exposure he'll bring to anime as a mainstream DJ/artist can only be a good thing. Has racked up nearly 3m views already on YouTube in a matter of days. I had no idea that anime and Japanese culture had an influence on his music either. Admittedly, it's not something I would have gleaned from listening to his music alone (unlike something like she).
For some reason, despite the fact the first episode had a lot going for it (great animation and music, amusing characters etc), it didn't win me over. Couldn't put my finger on it, but it felt like something was missing. Whatever the issue was though, it didn't affect the second episode, which I thought was amazing.
Yeah, although the third episode was pretty good, I prefer the three Japanese warriors more. I'm sure we'll see them again next episode.
This series would be topping my weekly rankings by a long shot, if it weren't for the lack of reliable, timely subs. Seems likely that will always be the case with Polygon shows, as long as Netflix keep snapping them up and refusing to offer simulcasts...
Ah, I was unaware of this. That's annoying. This is why you need to learn to speak Japanese, AJ! It's not even necessary to learn how to read and write. This way you can do away with subtitles. I did this for Korean dramas.
That would explain why I haven't seen much (or any) of their stuff. I seldom watch OVAs, unless it's something particularly noteworthy.
I don't seem to have the patience for slice of life series that I once had, a downside of my blog's weekly rankings perhaps, as it's hard to rate a show where little happens on the same level as Drifters or Izetta. Still, I'm also a fan of the director, and it does seem to be well written. I like the cats as well.
That makes sense, from a blogging perspective.
On another note, I did start preparing another video edition of the Identify the Anime threads, but it's quite a bit of work and the activity here has been really dead lately, so I ultimately ditched the idea after an hour or so. I mean, it was hardly rocking here the last time I did one, but it seems even less active, so I felt it didn't really justify the means. Even sticking to the standard pictures would seem like a lot of work for a very small audience.

My quote was referring to Yuri!!! on Ice, while your reply seems to be referring to Drifters. I agree though, the sudden change of focus was good for building up an overall picture of what's going on in their weird fantasy world, but I do like our three main characters more than any others we've met so far.

I managed this relatively well with Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino, 8 years ago when nobody was subbing it. Though I did have existing knowledge of what was going on from the manga, which surely helped. There are enough good series this season that I'm spoiled for choice though, so I'm happy to watch Ajin as and when the subs arise, and give something else a slot in my blog's weekly rankings.

People keep doing this to me.
No worries if you don't have the time, but if it's demand that's the issue, I can always use my ST connections to get worthwhile threads featured on the front page banner or 'Today on TSR' widget.
My most recent Identify the Anime thread got about 12-13 players, and my Best Summer Anime Poll went up from ~9 votes to 29 from being in the poll widget on the side. There does still seem to be fans out there, they just don't post in this thread...
I made a thread about visual novels. Not really my specialist subject, I'll be honest, so any comments or recommendations from people who've played (read?) more than one or two would be greatly appreciated.
Just a little bit late. But good to hear from you again!
Sorry to hear you got spoilered for Re:Zero, I'd have hated that. Worth watching regardless though, I guarantee it.
I ended up re-watching ep 13 then finished at 18 last night. In the end it wasn't really a spoiler (ep15) I should have known better with the way things happen in this anime
So whilst in a random non-anime related shop I found a random copy of some original Desert Punk Manga... in French!!!!!! Perhaps I should buy it On a separate note, i'm thinking that perhaps I should run the annual anime secret santa again (after I bailed last year!). I think i'll have more time this year.

I may have to have a look Not that I know much about VNs seeing as I still haven't got through the 1st Clannad arc which has taken me hours.

I've seen a few manga volumes in original Japanese in various charity shops and conventions over the years, series that I don't recognise (and would probably struggle to look up due to not being able to phonetically read the titles or manga-ka's names). Part of me wanted to buy them out of curiosity, but I figured I'd leave them for people who could understand them and get more enjoyment out of them.

I'd been meaning to ask you about that, great to hear you're up for running it, as I'm up for participating! Let me know if you want any help advertising it nearer the time, mod privileges and all.
Death Note - Might be a bit obvious, but it's another series with an intelligent, anti-hero protagonist.
Zetsuen no Tempest - Plenty of intelligent characters, and a great battle of wits. The first half of the series is stronger though, IMO.
Gundam SEED - If you liked the politics/mech battles from Code Geass, Gundam SEED is its spiritual predecessor. Similar characters and character designs.
And some general action recommendations: Fate/Zero, Baccano! and/or Mob Psycho 100 (the latter is by the same original manga artist as One Punch Man, which I see you rated highly).
I finished reading Welcome to the NHK... the ending lost me a little, so it misses out on a full 5/5 and a place in my fave manga list, but still a good series overall.

Ohh love the anime, one of my faves of all time, how does the manga compare?
It's pretty much the same until volume 4, from what I remember at least. It's been a while since I watched the anime! From there onward, the characters' lives and situations just seemed to get hilariously worse and worse, more of the same dark comedy. The only downside really was the need to have a (comparatively) serious and happy end, I felt they rushed that a bit. I'd still recommend it though.

I see! The rushed ending is off putting but I can never get enough of that dark comedy. The anime had some of the funniest stuff ever I was thinking about re-watching some of my old classics the other day, this being one of them, may just give the manga a go instead
