Russia air strikes 'killed 200 Syrian civilians'

100 per month is quite a high civilian casualty rate for the war against ISIS, it's quite clear that Russia are less careful about where they drop their bombs. Bombs do have to fall however, because ISIS will kill even more civilians if they don't. Perhaps if the west had done a better job at getting rid of ISIS we wouldn't have had sloppy Russia trying to clean up the mess.
If what Amnesty International have written in their report is true, then Russia has a lot to be ashamed of. The thought of them targeting civilians is just sickening :frown:

Why are people not outraged? When 200 people are killed by terrorists the whole world mourns, but when 200 people are killed by a government?

They weren't aiming for the civilians... whereas the jihadis are targeting civilians, so there goes your double standard

What makes their crime different in terms of blame is that innocent people in Paris were the targets, whereas the ones killed by bombing Syria were not the intended target, they were however within close proximity to the target.

Of course civilians were the intended target. Why else would they attack places like a market?

“Russian air strikes appear to have directly attacked civilians or civilian objects by striking residential areas with no evident military target,” said Philip Luther, the Middle East and North Africa Director for Amnesty. “Such attacks may amount to war crimes.”

Combatants who abide with the rules of war attempt to minimise casualties. Unfortunately, ISIS want to play dirty and fight amongst civilians. So any strike on important ISIS targets will harm civilians. Ergo, any harm to civilians is the blame of ISIS in this case.

Some would argue that every country is responsible for its own national security. You can bet that in the case of an UK invasion, 200 civilians is NOT going to deter a strike and neither should we expect it to. If a country falls short of its duty to national security then others have to step in and do the job for them...which often is going to involve some unfortunate casualties.

Jesus, you'd swear some people haven't seen 24.

You do realise most Russian strikes aren't against isis?
'Russian air strikes in Syria have killed over 400 civilians since September this year, monitoring groups say.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the death toll from September 30 - when the strikes were launched - until November 20 stood at 403 civilians, a figure that includes 97 children.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR), another monitoring group, said at least 526 were killed, including 137 children, since Russia launched its first air strikes.'

Syria: Russian warplanes hit two hospitals in Aleppo

'At least six civilians were killed and dozens were injured Friday in airstrikes carried out by Russian warplanes in Aleppo, Syrian security sources said.

The sources added that the airstrikes, which targeted Azaz district, caused heavy damage to the hospitals’ buildings. One of the medical facilities is believed to be a children’s hospital.'

It makes me so sad when I hear of consequential deaths because of the air strikes. Innocent people shouldn't die at the hands of the government and national leaders. Young children should't become orphans, homeless or injured due to those murderous idiots. Inshallah those killed will be in the highest heaven and those that caused their deaths will be punished.

I just cry when I think of them :frown:
