Cis to trans

An alkyne is treated with Lindlar Catalyst/H2 to give a cis alkene and then upon treatment with H+ becomes trans, can anyone explain why?

Hydrogenation gives cis as H2 adds from same side. Isomerisation of cis to trans to give thermodynamically more stable double bond isomer.

I didn't know what 'cis' was until a month ago. I'm glad this turned out to be a Chemistry question, and it seems I was late in answering it
