General question about my opportunity in the British military /RAF/NAVY/ARMY

General question about my opportunity in the British military /RAF/NAVY/ARMYHello everyone.I am a German guy living in the UK, I am 23 years old at the moment & I am married. I will become a British citizen by at least 2017. Then I also will be able to join the military.I am self-employed owning my own IT-Company ( mostly focused on IT-Security ). I am physically very active ( Taekwondo, running, some workout ).I have German school degrees in some courses ( could be compared to the British GCSE ).I am wearing very weak glasses when I drive ( well at least sometimes :-) ) and I would have to wear glasses in duty.I've been in the Germany Army / Mountain Infantry, but only for a very short period of time, during private reasons. However! Let's get to the point, since I like the UK and was always interested in a bit of a challenge, I am planning to join the British Army, Royal Air Force or the Royal Marines. I am only interested in combat roles like Paratroopers,Infantry,Marines,RAF Regiment or even being part of a tank crew or a doorgunner in the RAF.Can somebody tell me if I am able to join the British military with my knowledge & pre-history ? Would be nice to hear someones opinion who already lives in the Uk for a bit longer and has some experiences with especially the British military.PS: Is there any GCSE I can make to benefit my application for the army ? Like a language or so ?

Hi,

Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to apply for the British Army until you have British Citizenship. Preparing yourself is a great choice, With those role choices you are not actually required to hold any formal qualifications. Please check out those roles below:

Tank Crewman:
https://www.army.mod.uk/rolefinder/role/172/tank-crewman

Paratrooper:
https://www.army.mod.uk/rolefinder/role/151/paratrooper

Infantry Soldier:
https://www.army.mod.uk/rolefinder/role/83/infantry-soldier

And here is the role of a Guardsman that might be of interest to you:
https://www.army.mod.uk/rolefinder/role/73/guardsman

I would also take a look a the following link on how to prepare yourself for joining (you will be able to practice the literacy, numeracy and BARB test on this page that you will have to pass within your application process):
http://www.army.mod.uk/join/Getting-yourself-ready.aspx

The Minimum standards for both uncorrected and corrected vision are determined by service medical staff and are dependent on the proposed employment and branch/trade group. Spectacle or contact lens corrections must not be greater then -6 dioptres or +6 dioptres in any meridian. Impaired colour perception (colour blindness) is not a bar to service, but may limit your career choices. You will need to have a copy with you of any acuity prescription from your optician when you go for your medical examination.Your eye sight is checked over a distance of 6 Metres.

Hope this helps

Okay.

Thanks for the answer and the links, I will have a look in to it, especially the guards thing, since I've not really read much about that... yet.
