Oil companies use geophysicists. They get paid very well and they travel a lot.

Exactly how does Investment Banking fulfil

- Adventurous/active
- An element of risk
- Hopefully not 9-5 office work (more like 8-7 office work)
- Option of going self-employed

?

1. New events everyday, fast moving and dynamic environment, always doing something.

2. risk - explains it all really. No brainer

3. Agreed hours are around that though most S+T staff leave by 5pm

4. Money you make gives you an excellent chance of being self employed, think of those who become hedge fund owners, entrepreneurs etc etc etc.

I thought you needed a military background or specialist training to do that type of work?

Good day all,

I was just wondering if you knowledge few could help me in finding career options that have the following traits (doesn't have to contain them all and ranked by most important first):

- Technical
- Numerate
- Adventurous/active
- An element of risk
- Hopefully not 9-5 office work
- Decent pay (£18,000+)
- Option of going self-employed

So far I have:

- Police officer
- Soldier

- Close protection
- Teaching???

I'm interested in any and all ideas of suitable careers.

It's going to be interesting reading what ideas others have.

Thanks

Jimbo

Hi Mike,

The only thing with joining the forces, is that due to my family history of diabetes, and a motoring offence, they won't even consider me

Something similar to that would be fantastic.

Have you tried applying?

Hmm I dunno, given how much they pay I'm sure they can afford training!

renowned private military companies like Blackwater and Aegis will select the very best of ex soldiers( like ex-SAS,SBS,paras and royal marines). I'm sure there are less popular PMCs that use civilians, however some sort of security experience will be a prerequisite(sp. lol). Ever considered being a private investigator or MI5?

OR you could patrol the street you live on at night dressed in camouflage combat and night vision goggles if all fails.one mans army!lol

Just a thought, why don't you check out the career profiler on the Aimhigher website. It's really good and tells you the qualifications you need to do different jobs, any experience required, the expected salary for such jobs etc... You might find it useful, i don't know. But you can find it at http://www.aimhigher.ac.uk/careers___guidance/career_profiles.cfm
Good look in discovering what it is you want to do! :-)
